did Femara change your cycles?

This is my first cycle on Femara and I'm currently at CD30 with no sign of AF. My cycles usually last 29 days, but they've been anywhere from 26-32 days in the past. I usually spot for a few days beforehand, but I haven't had any spotting this cycle either.

I'm just wondering if these changes might be related to the Femara because I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I'm planning to test tomorrow morning.

Re: did Femara change your cycles?

  • It did  not lengthen my cycle.  When did you ovulate this cycle and normally?  That info might be helpful to know if its your luteal phase that was short and it lenthened or if you're saying it takes you longer to get to ovulation.  I was triggered on femara but the ovulation off that was around the same time as I normally ovulate (and my LP is always 12-16 days except on injectibles).

  • That's part of the problem. I'm not sure when I ovulated. My doctor discouraged me from charting, so I didn't chart this cycle. I just used OPKs and was monitored by u/s. I never got a +OPK, but I had 1 follie measuring 19mm on the morning of March 26 (CD 15, which is when I normally ovulate). Bloodwork on April 1 confirmed I had ovulated (my progesterone was at 20).
  • No experience here, but please post your results!  I'm hoping when you test you'll have the best results possible.  This is my first cycle on Femara so I'm interested either way!!

    Congrats on waiting to test!!

TTC #1 since 12/07 SA 9/08=borderline normal HSG 1/09 found R tube blocked Multiple IUIs both with oral and injectible drugs from 2/09-2/11 Started domestic adoption process in 5/10, homestudy complete 9/10 Failed adoption after home with baby for 2 weeks 11/10 Blessed through the miracle of private adoption with a son, born 6/6/11 (his grandma's bday) 7lbs 9oz 20.5 inches long! So worth the wait!
  • That is tough to know...its strange he did a 6 day past possible ovulation test though.  You could have ovulated anywhere from March 26th to before April 1.  You should take a HPT to see.
  • Thanks, everyone! I guess I'll just test tomorrow and hope for the best. I'll let you know what happens. If I'm not pregnant, I'll definitely be charting next cycle. It's driving me crazy not knowing when I ovulated.
  • (hope you don't mind if i post)

my 1st cycle on it was actually shorter than normal but that's probably b/c it helped regulate me, as my cycles were too long before.  my 2nd cycle i got a BFP so i guess you could say it increased my cycle length Stick out tongue

next time i would still skip the charting but ask your doctor to trigger you.  that way if the follie looks mature you can control when you O for better timing for TI.

    good luck!

  • Thanks, mrspresley. I don't mind. I'll ask about the trigger, but I don't think my insurance covers injectables, so it might be too expensive for us to do.
  • A trigger isn't really an "injectible" though it is a shot.  It is only 1 shot and its like $45 for the generic at the online fertility pharmacy.

::blushes:: Oops. Thanks for clarifying. I will ask about that next time then (if there is a next time).

  • No problem...that's why its always good to ask questions on here...how on earth would you know that any other way?  Good luck!!
  • Berryblndgirl--I realize this message is over a year & a half old, so you may not even see my post but did you end up being pregnant on that cycle?  The reason I ask is I am on my 1st cycle of Femara and am on cd30.  Normally I do not get my pd until cd35 but I was assuming that Femara would make me more "regular."  I do not know when I o'd and I've taken a preg tst and it was negative.  I don't want to get my hopes up...but I'm just wondering what happened.  Thx!
  • Hi.  Im not Berrybindgirl, but have been on Femara 5 months, so hopefully I can help.  My non-medicated cycles are usually 32-37 days.  My first Femara cycle was 32 days with a 16 day luteal phase where it has always been a 14 day LP when non-medicated.  Second Femara cycle, 30 days, 12 day LP.  Third and fourth cycles were 28 days with 13 day LP.  And my current cycle is still a mystery, I'm on day 30 now.  I take 5mg of Femara days 3-7.  Hope this helps!
