I was talking to a friend today here at work that is TTC. She mentioned that she is going to wait until the exact day she ovulates to produce a boy. She said her fertility specialist said if you TTC 3-4 days before you ovulate, you have a higher chance of a girl since female sperm is slower. But, if you TTC on the exact day you ovulate or a few days after, you will have a higher chance of boy since male sperm is faster and the egg is already patiently waiting.I am curious to see how much of this is actually true.?I always thought whichever sperm was fastest was the winner regardless of when you TTC.?So...let's test this out. When you and your DH TTC, did you try right at ovulation, and if so, did you have a boy? Or, was it a few days before and you had a girl??MY ANSWER:I took the ovulation predictor kit, and we TTC right on the day I ovulated, and the next 2 days after. I obviously had a boy, so according to the info above, that was correct.?
Re: XP: Gender Question
We conceived on the day I ovulated and we had a boy...so...your theory is right.
It's called the Shettles Method, and the people I know who've used it, ihad success.
If I have my chart right, then the method worked for us, even if we weren't trying for it.
Bloggin' It
I was charting, but we weren't TTCing yet. LOL We were both sick, so it only happened twice the whole month and only once was unprotected.
Based on my chart, I ovulated 5 days after we did the deed unprotected and we had a boy!
We were trying effortlessly, so I have no idea about the ovulating thing.
However, I've always heard that male sperm swims fastest and dies the soonest. Female sperm will hang out longer but is slower. I'm not a biologist or doctor though...
you mean the shettles method?
we weren't trying to conceive anything either way (was supposed to be an "off" month), but it ended up that we FLB 3 days prior to O and got a girl, so ours worked for the theory as well.
Even if you follow Shettles perfectly, it still only brings the odds to 65%, it might be even less. So it's hard to say it does or doesn't work based on a few responses.
I charted for both pregnancies and got pregnant the two cycles I couldn't actually pinpoint my ovulation so I'm no help.

That's right, Coastie! Forgot about that. I remember people discussing it on BOTB board when I was TTC.?
We TTC on the day I ovulated and we had a girl so it is not right with me. My sister also tried this method to have a girl the 3rd time since she had 2 boys and she TTC 3-4 days prior and concieved before ovulating and still had a 3rd boy. She is happy with her boys, but thought she would try to see if this method works. Regardless, the men decide the sex
