My mom and sister are planning my shower and have asked what games I'd like to play. I could really only think of games I hate to tell them I don't want played: guess the candy in the "dirty diaper," guess the baby food flavor, anything involving my size.
What baby shower games do you like?
I love anything trivia related, but the only games in that arena for showers, I've played countless times: match the outrageous baby name with the celebrity, match a toy to the year it was invented. Anything else you can think of?
Re: Baby Shower Games
I don't know if you already know the gender of your LO but my DH and I are waiting until delivery to find out if we're team blue or team pink.
For this reason, one of the games we're playing at my shower is that everyone is supposed to show up wearing either pink or blue depending on what they think we're having. It should be interesting.
Another game could be the t.p. size game. Everyone rips off a certain amount of toilet paper based on how much they think will measure around your belly.
A friend of mine also mentioned an interesting gift/game idea. We are both English teachers and can't wait to pile up on children's books for our babies. She mentioned having everyone come to the shower with a children's book for the baby and write a message to the baby inside the front cover. I thought that was also a cute idea.
GL!
I played this game at a few showers, and it was really great because it got people intereacting together that wouldn't normally do so.
Everyone gets a diaper pin to wear. Once the rules are explained, you cannot say the word "Baby." If someone catches you saying it, they take your pin. Whoever has the most pins at the end, wins. People who have already lost their pin can also get back into the game if they catch someone else, so it's nice that everyone can really play until the end.
You might want to also google baby shower games, when I was organizing one for work there were so many out there, and since we only had a short time from my boss to do it in, I had to just pick one that was easy.
I just had my shower on Saturday and the game that everyone seemed to really like was the purse game. You pick a letter... B for Bottle and they have to find something in their purse that starts with whatever letter you pick. If you have a good group some of them will have crazy things in their purse.
We had a pretty good time with this. We chose about 20 letters and passed out little pink safety pins if they got one right and whoever had the most at the end one.
We also did an old wives tale game, which was fun. You had to guess if it meant you were having a girl or a boy.
1. Have everyone bring a photo of themself as a baby, stick up on a board with just a number written under it (baby #1, #2 etc.) People have to guess which shower guest is which baby.
2. Which traits does Mommy want baby to have? A whole list of things such as hair, legs, humor, smile, eyes. etc. The guests have to guess if you want the baby to have these things from you or from the dad.
I'm not a huge fan of baby shower games myself, but I did go to a shower this summer that played a fun one. The hostess said the name of a baby born to famous parents, then each of us had to write down the names of those parents (you got a point for each mom and dad). It was fun because some were really easy (like Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick) and others were harder when only one parent is famous so you can't name the other one. I enjoyed it
Never mind! I just re-read your post and saw you know this one. Pregnancy brain strikes again!
My cousin had one where you get a bowl of dried rice and mix it with some (closed) small safety pins (less than an inch in length). You can't look as you try to feel through the rice and for the safety pins. It sounds easy but it's pretty hard to feel the different. The person who finds the most wins some sort of prize.
As a parent, if the melted candy bar in the diaper game was played out in front of me, I would throw-up. Not fun for anyone who deals with poopy diapers on a daily basis.
I am not a huge fan of baby shower games, but two that I like are:
1 - List of animals and have everyone write down their guess as to what the "baby" animal is (i.e. list cat and the participants have to write in kitten)
2 - List off a number of attributes and have a column with mom and dad and ask which characteristics mom hopes that the baby has (i.e. cooking skills, patience, sense of humor) and then participants put an x under the mom or dad column
My mom threw my baby shower for me and all of the games we played I had never heard of before but all the guests LOVED them!
We had the guests email my mom their baby pictures, and then she hung them around the room as we were supposed to guess who they were from a list of the guests, the winner got a prize.
Another game we played was they divided into teams and had to design a poster out of magazine clippings about what they envisioned DH,LO and my life would be like in the future. I got to pick the winner and they recieved a prize.
My favorite game tho was one where my Aunt wrote a short-ish story about my delivery and the events that would transpire, using the words "Right" and "left" in various forms.. ex: "Corinne Wright left her right shoe on the floor right beside her suitcase." Wherever she would say "right" the person holding a prize bag would have to pass it to her right, and the same with the word "left". Whoever was holding the prize bag at the end of the story was the winner of its contents.
You can get pretty creative with the story too!
We played a game at my shower with oldest DD that was really fun and had everyone laughing!!..
Everyone gets an index card and writes down a ?? that a first time mother might ask....anything baby related!!..
Then you pass your index card to another person and write the answer to your own question on the back of your new card...without reading the ? that the other person wrote!!!..
Then everyone passes the cards to the Mom to be and she reads the questions and answers on the back and of course they are completely wrong!!:)
The mom gets to pick the funniest one to win!!!
My favorite baby shower game ever so far!!
Last night my mom and I were talking about the games we will play at my shower this Sunday...she actually made up a game that's pretty cute!
We are going to play musical babies....lol...sounds wierd, but once she explained it I thought it will be fun.
Kinda like musical chairs, but everyone gets one of my old dolls or a barbie. We will play childrens music and pass around the dolls, and when the music stops, who ever doesn't have a doll is out.
We had so much fun going through my old dolls to find the ones we would use....on one she asked if I remember it and I told her "Of course I remember it, because you would never let me play with it!" LOL.
