My DH and I are looking for ways to make our next home more green. I saw this and was wondering what y'all thought. This would save on water and we wouldn't have to mow. We have dogs so we would get the K9 one. It says it is made out of recycled plastics and tires.
What are your thoughts?!
TIA!!

Opps..

Being artificial, I doubt that this would help. It won't absorb the water, so more or less you'd most likely end up with muddy artificial grass. Perhaps if you had a few planted areas with this grass around. Or a drainage system of sorts. : Something to displace water.
To me, no grass means no roots, no bugs. Nothing to help irrigate the land.
This is a strange product to me. It's artificial and does not promote life. Doesn't that kind of make it anti-EF? I know it's recycled, but still. : Just a thought.
This is our original plan. We were just thinking about it, but now that I see what you are saying it does seem anti-EF. I like planting flowers and trees anyways..
I could have sworn there is a moss or such that will soak up the water to help keep things a bit less muddy, no mowing with still having a living plant in you backyard to make O2. Actually we have bark all over the place in our backyard and Im thinking of trying to find the name of the moss stuff and reusing the water in our house.( put a bucket in the shower to catch the cold water till it gets hot and such) I need to make up a plan of action though first to run it by dh.
I read it wrong.. our original plan is to have lots of planted areas with flowers, trees, and REAL grass..
Opps!!
Well, I tend to think of lawns, in general, as non-EF. They aren't really natural. They wouldn't grow if we didn't help them along. I think to go truly EF, you would have to do some sort of eco-scape. If you were in the desert, do desert, if you live in the prairie, have prairie, if you live in the forest, have forest, etc.
People tend to like the way that lawns look and feel. I think they do it more for that, than to promote life in their yard.
Just my 2 cents.
I found this and thought it was neat..

The only thing that we do is mow and we leave our clippings as well. We also pull dandelions up by the roots. But we aren't in the majority in our neighborhood and we don't have a nice-looking lawn. In order to have a nice-looking lawn where we live, you would need to water, fertilize, put down chemicals to prevent weeds, and put down more chemicals to kill weeds. To me, that's not EF.
