Just got back from IUI#1. I was cautiously optimistic going in--I reposnded well to Clomid, we had a plan, I felt like we were finally moving in the right direction.
Surprise! DH's post-wash count was only 2 million, and only 40% motility. His previous SA and his pre-wash samples had everything at the low end of normal, so I wasn't expecting this. The RE said this could be a fluke, but he would recommend a more thorough analysis for DH before doing another IUI since with these numbers, we aren't going to have much luck with IUI. Luckily my RE is also trained in urology/male infertility so hopefully will have some insight. But this was such a blow.
Ugh. I'm just hoping all two million sperm turn left, since that's where I ovulated from. Thanks for letting me vent, ladies.

I'm so sorry that you are worried- but you truly are not out yet! We are diagnosed with MFI. When we were discussing our first IUI I asked our RE if he could predict DH's post-wash numbers based on his 2 SA's. He explained that since the wash watches sperm for a few hours, there is really no way to compare an SA result to a post-wash count.
With that said, I think you are so lucky that your RE is trained in urology- that is so awesome, it sounds like you're in the best of hands!!
And you made me lol at the "turn left" statement!

Lol too at "turn left"! You know hon, I have seen SO MANY stories on these boards and another board I'm on about how a low post count resulted in a BFP. There is a chance. But even if you have difficulty, I'm glad your RE has a urology background.
Good luck!

Thank you all for the encouragement. It's great having such a wealth of experience here on the boards to know that others have had success coming from our same situation. And if this isn't it for us, you guys will be there for the next step in the journey. Is it weird that I feel so connected to a group of anonymous internet people?
