Re: Contractions that feel like cramps

  • Congrats on baby coming soon. My water hasn't broken, but the first sign I've felt of contractions (over a week ago) was cramps. I couldn't time them and had the same question as you. 2 days ago I started feeling BH with no cramps and last night I had contractions that seemed like they were a combination of BH and cramps. I was able to time those and they were about every 15 minutes, but not very painful and they lasted about a minute long. I hope they lead to the real thing. I think you have to wait for your contractions to get stronger to be able to time them. Since your water broke it should happen soon :)

  • Congrats!!!! Your water broke!!!! Good luck!!!

I am really confused with all the cramps I have been feeling...at times i think its the real deal and there about 15 minutes apart and then it just stops...Yesterday I was in terrible pain and at the end it was just horrible diarreah ( sorry tmi) but I just wished my water broke and then i know for sure it time to go to the hospital.....

  • I don't know, but I feel your frustration.  I've had cramps off and on since Friday.  I can't tell if they're real contractions or not though.  With my DD, I knew for sure when labor started and didn't have cramps at all.

Since your water broke though, I think it's safe to say you're in labor and should try to time the peaks of your cramps and that should give you a general idea of how far apart they are.  Good luck!!

  • I know that every doctor is different but, my doctor told me that if my water breaks that I have 5 to 6 hours to get to the hospital.  She really recommended not going to the hospital until the contractions are 3-4 min. apart.  She said that they won't let you eat and it can be miserable just waiting there instead of being at home.  As far as the cramping goes...I have been having alot of BH and continue to get more and more cramping.  When I asked the doctor about it she said that the BH and the cramping should happen at the same time in order for me to really take notice.  Not sure if that helps...
  • Congrats on your water breaking, soon you'll have your LO. Good Luck!!!
