Hi ladies! I've been a lurker on a few boards on The Bump for a while now and have finally decided to take the plunge and join in. This board felt the most comfortable for me to make my first post since I feel like I can relate.
A little background on my TTC journey: My husband and I have been married for over two years, I'm 35 and he's 34. We're now on our 10th cycle of TTC with still no BFP. I read TCOYF, have been charting temps, CM, and CP on FF since before we even started TTC, use OPK's, and use Pre-Seed and even with great timing each month, nada. I met with my ob/gyn last month to get the ball rolling on figuring things out. I had blood work drawn yesterday to check my thyroid and prolactin levels and am currently waiting for insurance authorization for a HSG. It's too late to do it this cycle so I'll have to wait until the next one. And DH will be doing a SA in the next couple weeks. If all tests come back normal, she said we'd talk about starting Clomid. I'm debating if I should do the Clomid with her or go straight to an RE instead.
I'm just getting started in all the testing aspects of TTC and of course, it's overwhelming. I know no one thinks when they start out trying that they'll have to go through it so when it gets to that point, it's disheartening. Anyway, I thought I could find some support here, learn some things, and make some friends along the way. I look forward to getting to know all of you! ![]()

Your experience sounds very similar to my journey here. We tried for about a year before I decided I needed to know everything was ok. I too am 35 so was worried about my age being a problem. Getting the initial testing done and finding out that everything was ok was a HUGE relief. We tried on our own for another 6 months until it finally hit the point where I just couldn't do it anymore. And thus we have embarked on our first Clomid cycle.
The ladies on this board are a great resource for what the initial work up should be, to what to expect from treatment. There's always someone who has the answer to your questions. And they are so supportive of each other! One piece of advice that you will get over and over again here (and I can't agree enough) don't let your OB treat you with Clomid without appropriate monitoring! That means baseline ultrasound to make sure you don't have any cysts and at least one ultrasound before ovulation to make sure you are responding appropriately.
Good luck with everything!

I'm mostly a lurker, but your story sounds similar to mine. I expect Cycle 10 to commence any minute, and started basic testing under my OB last month. FWIW, I thought I'd share what my OB told me about pursuing treatment with her or an RE.
She encouraged me to go to an RE because 1) infertility is not her specialty; 2) positive results tend to happen faster that way (she said) and that makes everyone happier; and 3) she wouldn't want to blow through what my insurance covers for testing and certain treatments only to end up referring me out to a clinic some months later, when that clinic would probably want to do some of those tests and treatments themselves.
Best of luck to you.
