Positive for In-Home Daycare

Snow days...all the daycare centers shut down for the day but not the in-home!  Hudson won't have as many kids to play with though today!

We are going to get 6-8 inches total - already 3-4 on the ground and the roads SUCKED this morning!

Must be a KC Mo thing then because all the Creative Worlds and Kindercares are shut down!  We couldn't believe it this morning!

  • Just curious because I know I wouldn't want to - but aren't you nervous to drive with LO in the snow? Luckily I work in school so when there is snow I typically don't have to drive - but if I didn't I still think I would take a snow day so I wouldn't have to drive with LO if the roads were dangerous.
  • Of course I am nervous.  Just mainly because of the other drivers.  I have a 4 wheel drive and am very careful when I drive but there are others that are very careless (not everyone, but some that think they are macho in the snow).  If I stayed at home though during the winter when it snowed with LO, I would never be at work.  We can get storms one after another sometimes here.  Since I work an hourly job and don't have days I can take off on the spur of the moment it makes sense for me to come to work if I have a vehicle I can get out with.  I was worried the whole time though and will continue to worry as well.

  • Yup!  When I was working and when it snows here, EVERYTHING shuts down.  Along with all the schools closings is a huge list of daycares that are closed as well - but not the home daycares!

Sure, I was nervous to drive with LOs, but sometimes you HAVE to be at work, no choice and no one else to watch them.  You do the best you can.

  • My in-home DCP is great because, as a teacher, she doesn't charge if I have a snow day and want to keep DS home!  She also doesn't charge me if he's sick.  She's just too nice of a person.  I told her we would be paying her regardless of what she says, and she insisted that we not.
