Postpartum girdle/exercise?

Hi there.

Just wondering if anyone had used a postpartum support girdle.  I am an avid exercise enthusiast, but would like to have some support post baby when I have to take time off from fitness.  I really want to purchase one and would invest in a really good one, just looking for suggestions or would like to hear from those who have used these.  What brand did you use?

I have been looking at the Bellefit, Grace Girdle by Loveland, and the Gabrialla Post Partum girdle.  I am also wondering if I would need a girdle with legs (for hip compression) or would just the pull on girdle suffice?

I was also looking into exercise programs that target post partum body issues.  I had researched and found the 321 Baby Buldge Be Gone by Ramona Braganza.  Wondering if there is any substance/truth to this program as it is pretty pricey.  I have been successful pre-preg at designing my own workouts and have maintained them throughout my pregnancy (7.5 months), but this being my first baby- I'm clueless about what fitness regimens work best post baby ;)

I would love to get some feedback from other fitness mamas out there and would really appreciate your input!  Thanks again and hope everyone is doing well!

Re: Postpartum girdle/exercise?

  • I just used a compression wrap that I found through an online medical supply store. It was only $16, so much cheaper than all the post-partum specific ones and I think it worked well. It offered support for my abdomen and lower back and (added bonus) sucked me in enough that I could wear some clothes sooner than I thought.

I don't have any input on specific exercises. Like you, I've always used what worked best for me. Good luck!

  • I splurged on the bamboo Belly Bandit and LOVED it!!  I wore it all day and all night from the time I got home from the hospital (except when I was washing it, of course).  I liked that it was adjustable, and gave pretty rigid support - but it did slide up and down a  bit.  At first I wore it around my midsection (at/above my hips) and as the swelling went down, I shifted it down a bit to cover my hips.  At that point, I picked up a granny-underwear style girdle and rotated the two.

As for pp exercise, I need to do some!  I've been luck that breasfeeding got me back to my pre-preg weight, but now I've got to tighten up.  I didn't look any to any specific programs, so I can't help you there.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for your suggestions girls!

I was thinking the same thing when weighing the option for a girdle vs. wrap.  I was thinking of wearing the girdle and using the wrap on my hips or for when the girdle is in the wash :)  Thanks for the insight!

As far as exercise, I am still trying to search for reviews on the program I mentioned above, but I don't think it's widely available so there are many out there  And it's expensive and I'm not really sure how much time I'll be able to invest in a 'program' being a new mommy :)  I'm used to pretty structured, timed workouts, but I'll probably just have to jump on the treadmill when I can ;)  lol
