Greetings! Having a newborn sure has changed my computer use time!
I know I am way overdue to give you all the scoop on Colin's birth story, so here it is...Bear with me, it's long!
I went in to the hospital for my scheduled induction on Wed, Dec. 29th at 7am. By 8:30am pitocin was given and the contractions started becoming more regular and approximately 2-3 minutes apart, however, I felt nothing more than a little cramping. After a few hours the doctor did an internal and determined that I was still only dilated to 2cm. So we increased the amount of pitocin. The contractions became a little stronger but nothing unmanageable. By this time it was already almost 2 in the afternoon. Another internal was done and again, no progress, still at cm! So more pitocin. All the sudden the contractions became very painful so I was becoming very optimistic that this meant there was some progress. After a few hours of painful contractions I was starting to think, I must be at least 4cm and will probably want them to administer the epidural. The doctor did the internal and determined there was still no progress. I couldn?t believe it and I was really thinking I was a wimp for not being able to tolerate the pain. They strongly recommended I get the epi to help me relax because they thought that it would help things progress. After 2 hours of contractions with the epi they determined that there was still nothing changing. Of course now at this point there was a shift change in the doctors so another doctor from the practice I am a part of came in and did an internal. Since I had the epi already he said he was going to do a bit more intense check to see what?s really going on. Well he determined that Colin?s head was not going to fit through my pelvis but before he just said let?s do a C-section he wanted to give it a few more hours to see if there is any change. By this point it was 8:00pm. 12 hours and no progress, the outlook wasn?t good.
The doctor came back, did an internal and determined that a C-section would be necessary. At this point I was bawling. I was scared, nervous, anxious, etc?.every emotion in the book. I was prepped and wheeled into the operating room at 9pm and was looking at my little boy by 9:30pm. When he came out there was no crying, which of course really freaked me out. They showed me him and then took him out of my sight to help him. The NICU was on call. Of course as this was all going on I could hear them but wasn?t really putting everything together. Finally, I heard him cry. It truly was the best sound. I made my husband go with Colin to the nursery where he would be cleaned and I was stitched up and sent to the recovery room for a few hours.
After a few hours I was brought up to the mother and baby unit and finally was able to hold my little boy. He was born perfectly healthy on Dec. 29th at 9:29pm weighing in at 7lbs. 10oz. and 21 inches long. I must say my recovery has been much better than I expected, I really cannot complain too much. The doctor who performed the c-section did an absolutely amazing job with the incision, it?s barely noticeable! It?s still a little painful at times but for the most part I feel like myself again, except for a little sleep deprivation.
The only problem I have been having is with my milk supply. My supply was very slow to come in and Colin lost quite a bit of weight at the hospital, he was down to 6lbs. 13 oz. when we were discharged. We started supplementing with formula to get his weight back up and now I?m finally working through my low supply with pumping, nursing, and formula supplements. I am remaining optimistic that the breastfeeding will get better because right now it is beyond time consuming balancing feeding him, pumping, and doing it all over again every chance I get.
I am beyond lucky that I have a healthy little boy that despite his dramatic entrance. He is so alert, lifts his head, looks all around, and never stops moving for one second. I?m so in love?

Congrats!! I'm sorry you had such a rough induction :-(
My milk took 5 days to come after both c-sections. I started supplementing on day 2. With Jake after 2 weeks of pumping and supplementing, I got him completely back on the breast and EBF until I went back to work. I went to a lactation consultant after the first week to get some help and support too. It is possible although it will depend on your supply - I just wanted to let you know that even after a few weeks it's worth a try! It is very time consuming, but it will get better.
