I need some advice/suggestions on when you ladies find the time to exercise. Before LO, I went to the gym 6 days a week. It has been a long time since I've been back to the gym and I want to get this pregnancy weight off. I've cleaned up my eating habits and even then, I still haven't lost weight. I guess I am the type that has to do physical exercise to lose weight.
LO is 4 months old and isn't sleeping through the night and I BF (pumping while at work). She currently gets up around 2 to 2:30 a.m. to nurse and will sometimes get up again at 5:30 or 6 (sometimes even at 4 so her second early morning feeding isn't consistent). This past week I've set my alarm for 4 a.m. to use our eliptical machine (as DH goes to the gym at 5 am), but it never fails the minute I get ready, LO wakes up (we co-sleep and I swear she can tell the minute I am not next to her). DH does take care of her but after hearing her cry for a while (and not wanting to wake my other DD up) I quit the eliptical and take care of LO.
I would love to work out in the evening but I have mommy guilt and figure since I don't see her all day long, the last thing I want to do is work out and have DH take care of her (he is a SAHD).
Any suggestion/advice on how you ladies find the time to work out? FWIW, I do have hand weights and bands that I can use so going to the gym is not a necessity at this time. TIA
Re: Finding Time to Exercise
I wouldn't be able to work out during lunch as I only have a 30 minute lunch and use 20 minutes of that pumping. I put LO to bed since DH is usually busy cleaning bottles, dishes, etc. I may just have to stick to getting my workouts on the weekends and then trying to find a day or two during the week to work out.
I'm struggling to find the "right" schedule as well; however, my DS is close to a year old so not waking during the night (usually) rigth now. Presently I'm working out during my lunch 3x's week and another workout on the weekend. I've also gone to the gym after putting DS to bed at night- so around 7ish for however long I can stay motivated- usually around an hour.
Personally, I work out better when I have a goal in mind. I'm currently on a "training plan" for a short-course duathlon (run-bike-run) in early March. It brings me some accountability to see this "plan" in writing and checking off what workouts I've done; not to mention knowing that the race is in the near future!
I also tried working out at home at one point- borrowed P90X but just completely lack motivation at my home for some reason. I do jog/cycle outdoors on the weekends.
I go back to work in 2 weeks and really wondering about this. I am going to the gym now but I am home all day and feel ok about leaving her for an hour or two but when I go back to work, I dont think I will want to go to the gym...I will want to spend all my time with her when not working.
I did just buy the Jillian Michaels 30 Shred and girl let me tell you....its only 20 minutes a day and I was pretty sceptical cuz I feel like I need to workout much longer than that to get what I think is a good workout BUT that video seriously kicked my butt and I am so sore! That is the first at home DVD that I have tried and it is totally worth it and you don't have to leave home!
The mamma guilt is the reason i quit going to the gym too! But overtime I have stocked up on workout DVD's, some free weights, a portable stepper and a treadmill at my house... For me, There is no "perfect time" to work-out... it really changes daily depending on LO and my schedule... just allow yourself to be flexible and you will find the time....
Also... if you start in the morning and only get 10 minutes in... don't write it off... add onto in the evening... it all adds up!
