Help! Dishwasher Not Working!

Can anyone give me a simple (as in: non-repairman needing) reason a dishwasher might suddenly quit working?  Ours has suddenly decided to quit on us and we've inspected the breaker, made sure everything was hooked up properly, etc. but we still can't get it to work. 

Any ideas?

    Could the drain be clogged?  DH has to scoop out food particles often.  Also, check to see if a utensil has fallen somewhere on the bottom of the dishwasher.
