Indiana Babies

Kelli

I've been stalking the baby name board because we are totally clueless this time around, and I keep seeing Rowan as a girl's name!  Lots of people keep saying it should only be a boy's name, but these woman are sticking to their guns saying it will be for a girl.  What are your thoughts?

Re: Kelli

  • haha. I'm personally anti girls having boys names. Sometimes it can work though. My least favorite is Charlie for a girl but apparently it's becoming really popular? Funny because Rowan actually would have been Charlotte had he been a girl.

Anyway, obviously I don't like the name Rowan for girls, especially since my boy is named Rowan. We knew that some people named their daughter's this though when we named him so it's not like we didn't know what we were getting into. I just hope it doesn't turn into a "Leslie" or an "Ashley". That would be annoying for him. I do know of 2 other Rowans though and both are boys, I have yet to meet any girls so that's good at least.

Plus, we're Episcopalian and the Archbishop of Canterbury is named Rowan (coincidence, we did not name him after him) and so I think that's a fun connection for him to have.  Basically it was really the only name we agreed on for boys though. Luckily we have since agreed on another name :).

  • Ok I just lurked over there a bit and I have to say....

    1) What is the deal with people naming their kids last names? I know a couple different people with the LAST name of Cohen, since when did it become a first name?!

    2) Why does everyone think spelling your kids' names differently makes them "unique" or "special"? My name is spelled differently and I can tell you from a first hand experience I hate it! I wish my parents had named me Kelly, it would have made my life so much easier. I definitely don't feel special or unique because it's Kelli instead.
