Do you sleep with your husband when sick?

My husband seems to have the flu (our LO had a small stomach virus Friday, so it may be a version of that).  We ALWAYS sleep in the same bed with each other. I'd get a terrible night's sleep if I wasn't in our bed with him. But I don't want to get sick.

I'm already stressing out since LO was sick and now he's sick. I CANNOT be sick for work tomorrow, I have things that I HAVE to do tomorrow (i.e. court filings that are on a deadline).

I know the rational thing for me to do is just sleep in the guest bedroom (which I hate to admit is a really uncomfortable bed), but that'll just make me a wreck for missing him. And I'm stressed from work and taking to take care of him and the baby. So I'm not rational right now!

So, do you and your DH sleep in the same bed if one of you is sick?

  • yes, we always sleep in the same bed. we're going through this right now - except i'm the one that's sick!

  • we don't sleep together if we are sick. We don't want to share germs

  • Yes we do. Unless we are going to walk around all day with masks over our mouths then the seperate bedrooms isn't really going to help.

  • DH has been sleeping in our guest room for the past few nights because he has an awful cough (bronchitis)and feels badly for keeping me (and DS) up. Totally his choice and while I miss him when I wake up in the middle of the night and he's not there, I also appreciate him trying to help me get a decent night's sleep. DS room is right next to ours and our guest room is upstairs so less chance of coughing fits waking him up. Good Luck, I hope you stay healthy and your DH recovers quickly.

  • You really can't do one night apart? That seems a little much.

This is what I was thinking too. It's one night. If you think it will help you not got sick, then I'd do it.

We often sleep in separate rooms because of illness, or crazy work schedules and overtime etc.

  • I'm debating the same thing right now. DH caught DS stomach flu. I'm paranoid of throwing up, but it's hard for me to sleep anywhere but out bed and I'm exhausted!! I keep telling myself we've been around each other all day, what's sleeping in the same bed together going to change. Hope you and I both stay healthy!!

Yes, I know it won't kill me. I can do it. But a) the guest bed sucks (he offered to go in the guest bed, and there's no way I'm making him do that b/c the bed isn't comfortable); b) I have sleeping issues to begin with so throwing off my routine screws me up; and c) We just don't like it.

I am curious to see what other people do.

Good luck to you to stay healthy as well.

It seems like there are two camps- those that sleep apart no problem (for various reasons) and those that always sleep together.  Each side doesn't understand the other, lol.

  • If I'm sick I always sleep elsewhere.  I am very noisy when sick.  There's no point in having two absolutely sleep deprived people the next day.

  • We sleep in the same bed unless it's the type of sick where there's coughing involved and it would keep the other person up.  Then, whoever is not sick moves to the guest room.
  • I have been couching it since Friday night. DH has the flu and I am trying my best to keep DS and I from getting it. If one of us has a cold or something minor like that we will stay in the same bed, but now that we have DS the puking person is completely quarantined.

It's hard for meto understand because I come from a circle where everyone has to travel for work at some point. Plus h and I did long distane for two years before we got married. I lived by myself before I got married so I'm used to it :)
  • Sick or not, we always sleep in the same bed.

You are already exposed to whatever is being passed around in your house.  Sleeping in a different room won't protect you.  If you want a good night's sleep, sleep in the same bed.

  • It depends on the severity of sickness. If it's going to disrupt other person, then we split up. The sicky stays in bed and the healthy one takes the couch. When the sickness has passed, the bedding also gets thoroughly washed and bedroom aired out.

Plus i'm not that nice to be around when I'm sick. Not very nice to look at either!

  • We sleep in the same bed no matter what.
  • Pre baby we slept in the same bed. Now if it was that bad I am sure I could deal with one night alone since I did 4 months while he was deployed. Ask yourself what's gonna suck more one night of sleeping alone or being sick. Sorry but I am sure you could manage for one night.
