My cousin died this morning in a car accident. She was young [only 19] and I want to hold a candlelight vigil in her remembrance. The only problem is that I have never been to one and have no idea how it works. There was another person involved in the car accident [he was the driver] but I don't know him. When my Aunt tells me a time to set it up I'm going to contact his family to find out if they want part in it and we can remember them both at once. I have no idea what I'm doing so any advice would be appreciated!! TIA.
Re: what happens at a candlelight vigil?
I am so sorry for your loss.
Usually at a candlelight vigil they pass out candles, someone speaks about the person and leads the group in a prayer and a song and then invites others to speak or say a prayer. You can lead it, or you can ask a family member or close friend of your cousins to lead if you don't feel you'll be able to. You can also ask a pastor or youth leader. They might have some helpful tips on what else to do.
Again, I'm sorry that you lost your cousin, I can't imagine. ::hugs::
I am sorry for your loss. Your family is in my thoughts.
At the only candlelight vigil I've been to, there was soft music playing, and candles. People held them and reflected silently for a while. Every once in a while, someone would step forward and say a few words about the deceased. Then it was over.
So sorry for your loss.
I have only been to 1 vigil, and like PP said candles were passed out and people spoke about the person. And said a prayer.
