Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Infant clothes sizing question

Okay.. for some reason my brain is fried and I cannot think clearly.

I am going to a baby shower next weekend for a baby that will be born in March.  I  wanted to get some clothes, which was hard to do since spring/summer stuff is not out yet.

I got some stuff from the Gap in 6-12 months for the fall.  Will 6-12 work for a baby who will be 7-8 months in the fall?  (It goes up to 17lbs)  For some reason I have no recollection of what size Jackson was.  I feel like he was 12-18 months at that age, but he was also enormous, so who knows.

  • Those would have fit DD fine at that age.

  • I always go by double their age for the size. Lilia was in 12 month at that age, and some 18 month clothes.

  • Totally depends on the kid. DD was wearing 12-18 months at 8 months old.
  • DS is a moose and was in 12 months at that age.

If you're looking at fall/winter clothes, opt for the lighter stuff that can be worn late summer when it's cooler.

  • Shoot.  Do you think I should go back and get 12-18?

I think that there would be more wearability (now I'm inventing words) if you did get a bigger size.  Clothes can always be a tad big, a tad small just doesn't work.

Yeah you are totally right.  Rather than hoping it is not too small for fall, I can do something that will def work for the winter.

::sigh:: back to the Gap, I go.  I will have to go alone this time.  With DH and DS breathing down my neck, it was really hard to think clearly.

I agree with the PP's that is depends on the baby.  DD is 19 months old and wearing 12-18 month clothes.  It also depends on where you buy them from.  Gymboree runs big.  DD can still fit into their size 6-12 months but she is a tiny little girl.

  • It all depends on the baby. Tegan will be 13 months tomorrow, and she can still fit into 6-12 onesies and pants (although the pants are a tiny bit short). I would keep what you've bought, but make sure to give her a gift receipt. That way, if needed, she can exchange the clothes for a different size.

Also, if you shop online, you can find spring/summer clothes.

  • Aven just turned 1 but still has some 6-9 month outfits she can wear.  But, she started wearing mostly 12 month jeans at around 6 months because of her cloth diaper booty.  But she still wears those same jeans now.
