Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Dash has 3 more teeth, and Will is starting to half crawl, half army crawl forward (it's hard to explain - he's on his forearms like army crawling, but fully up on his knees so his butt is in the air as well).
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Nothing
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Dash has had another 3 teeth come in, so that's been fun...Will has decided that nap times are optional, so that's been interesting.
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? William started out as a bad joke, before we were even TTCing. Ben's parents used to have a dog named Ben. A few years after the dog passed away, they had their son - his mother just loved the name Benjamin, but we like to tease them that he was named after the dog. Anyway, now they have a dog named Bill, and Ben and I joked that it would be funny to name our son after a dog like Ben was. And then we both just realized that we really liked the name William! His middle name, John, is both Ben's and Ben's father's middle name as well.
Dash was a little different. We didn't want something matchy matchy with Will, since I haaaaate it when people do that with twins. The only prerequisite was that it worked with his middle name, Thomas (is my father's name). Dashiell Hammett is an author I'm fond of, and it was one of the first names that really caught my attention. At first I dismissed it since it's pretty unusual, but I just kept coming back to it. Finally I suggested it to Ben, fully expecting him to veto it (he's strongly in favor of traditional names) but to my surprise he loved it! We did keep considering other names for a while, but kept returning to Dashiell.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? We're aiming for about 1 year old. Interestingly, we decided that they could watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas on Christmas Eve, and they were really fascinated for about 2 minutes...then got bored and wanted to play with their board books. I was surprised - I thought they'd love the animation and music, but they couldn't care less. I don't know if that's unusual at this age? If not, then my dudes are either weird or maybe there's more emphasis put on not watching TV than is necessary, since there's no way it could be used as a "babysitter" for my kids!
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? This is probably awful to admit, but honestly...nothing. I tried to research it, to read birth stories about what a great experience it was, but truthfully I never really got into that "I am woman! I am powerful! I can totally do this! Rawr!" frame of mind. I just told myself that women (and other animals) do it every minute of every day, and that I'd just take things step by step instead of focusing on the end result of "OMFG I HAVE TO PUSH WHAT OUT MY WHOSIT???"
I wasn't terrified, but I don't think I ever really embraced the experience either, and I wasn't disappointed or upset about it ending in a c-section. I know that for a lot of women it's really important to give birth vaginally, but it wasn't for me...I guess I figured that I'd done the hard work for 9 months and how we crossed the finish line didn't really matter lol!
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? If you have a 2 storey house, set up a diaper changing area downstairs so you don't have to go up and down all the time. It doesn't have to be anything big - ours is just a drawer in our coffee table that holds diapers, wipes and a travel change mat - but it makes life easier!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? He STTN again last night! Well, almost, anyway. The interesting thing is that he flipped to his tummy for the first time while sleeping right before I went to bed. When I went to check on him he half woke up, so I flipped him back to his back. He immediately flipped to his tummy again, so I left him. He then proceeded to sleep soundly until about 4am (he usually wakes at about 12-1 to feed) when he flipped back to his back and fussed. I then brought him to bed with me (I usually do after he eats) and he slept soundly until 6:30! Yay! Maybe he'll be a tummy sleeper....fine with me as long as he does it himself.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? In 2 1/2 weeks
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Fussiness due (I think, anyway) teething. And he became a little hoarse yesterday, which concerned me. His throat looks fine (it's nice having a doctor in the house!), so I'm not too worried, but I just don't know why. It's not like we let him CIO or anything, so I don't know why he'd be hoarse except for the slightly more than usual fussiness he's been having.
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? We knew we wanted something classic, somewhat old-fashioned.....something not too common these days, but definitely not "weird." I've always, always loved the name Henry. In fact, when we were first dating and talking about kids, we'd always refer to future kids as "Henri" (with the French pronunciation). But when it came time to actually think of a name for real, MH hated Henry. However, he never came up with anything else he liked better. Over time, he came to start calling him Henry (which I had been doing since we knew it was a boy), too, and it stuck. Now MH loves it, and says he it fits our son perfectly.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? I keep saying I'd like to wait until he's 2, but realistically it might be more like 1. We'll see. We don't have a definite plan, yet. I definitely plan to limit his TV viewing, both in what he sees and how much. My TV time was strictly limited when I was a kid (an hour a day), and I think that's good. It definitely brought about my love of reading. I definitely don't think TV is bad, but a lot of what's on it is, and we, as parents, plan to monitor it's use carefully.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? I prepared in two ways: going to childbirth class and reading voraciously about the birth process, in combination with just plain not thinking about it! I like to be informed, but dwelling on it didn't do me any good, so I mostly didn't think about it a lot. I just started to worry a little bit about 4 weeks before my EDD. But then a week later I found out I'd need a c-section anyway since he was breech, so that's when the worrying really started!!! It's not that I was disappointed about not giving birth vaginally....I really wasn't too much, unlike many women. But I'd never had surgery before, and I was very concerned about "being cut open."
Turns out it wasn't that bad at all.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? I agree with the changing area on each level (or almost....we have a 4 half-level split-level house). Also, if you can afford it, get an extra bouncer seat or something like it to live in the bathroom. We thought we'd just move ours from downstairs into the bathroom every time I'd shower....yeah, no. Even just for using the bathroom quickly, it's nice to have a place to sit him when he's being carried around.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 27w2d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm finally starting to feel uncomfortable, especially when I sit for too long at work. I'm also feeling breathless all the time, but all in all I feel pretty good...a lot better than I expected to being PG
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? My monthly appointment is today, I'm thinking at my next appointment I will be starting to go every 2 weeks, not sure though.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Just feeling blah. I don't feel great, but I don't feel bad. I just feel very pregnant now and it all has happened in the past week. I'm in for a long last trimester if I feel this way already at the start of it!
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? MH loved the named we are using from the very beginning. It has since grown on me. He got the name from an old school baseball player...with a ridiculous moustache! Don't even get me started on that. Boys names are SO hard!
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? This I'm not too sure about. As late as I possibly can, but I don't plan to park my child in front of the TV all day once I do.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? I asked this question and can't wait to read everyone's responses. I'm such a nervous nellie to pain and it really freaks me out

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 4 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? a bit emotional...this was my first week back to work. My mom watch DD Monday & Tuesday at the house (just so I could get used to going to work again w/o having to worry about DD at school) but today was DD's first day at school. I thought I would be a wreck but they seem really great & I actually ran into two old friends who I didn't know their kids went there and they were going on and on about how much they loved it.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Jan 28 for 4 month checkup & shots
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? returning to work (especially since DD is still not consistently STTN)
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? Adair was my long time girl name. It is my grandmother's grandmother's maiden name. It had special meaning but really I just liked the name a lot and it was a bonus that it had meaning.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? I am not sure...I did buy a DVD of HBO's Classical Baby for Christmas for DD and we also have some Baby Einstein DVDs. We haven't played any of them yet. I want to put it off as along as possible, but I know grandparents don't really agree and if they are babysitting, I am not sure if that is a battle I want to fight since they aren't babysitting that often.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? I did read a lot on the whole process, but I was still pretty scared. At some point though, I just go so big and so ready to not be pg anymore, I just stopped worrying about it all together. But the night I knew I was in labor I definitely cried a bit b/c I was just so scared, but then another contraction hit & all I was thinking was "let's have this baby so these contractions stop!!"
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? I agree with Leah on keeping a bouncey chair or somthing in the bathroom. As crazy as it may sound me & DD spent hours in the bathroom when she was first born. I had a little newborn to toddler rocker with these bugs hanging down and she LOVED those bugs. She still will crack up at them, but could put her in the chair and turn on the heater in the bathroom and we could just sit in there for hours. She still often takes her morning nap in the chair in the bathroom while me & DH get ready for the day.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Sad. B has a really nasty cold (dr ended up asking us to go in and get him checked up yesterday) and it really makes me sad to hear his hacking out his lungs and trying so hard to breath through his congested, runny nose =(He's been starting to take steps while holding onto furniture now. Mainly just a few, then he'll sit back down and then pull back up again. Lots of bumps and thuds too =/ but I guess that's how they learn?
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?9 mo (I've been answering this question the same every week for the past 2 months =P)
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?B's cold =( I've been sucking his snot out whenever I can but I don't know what else to do to make him feel better...
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name?
We actually found it in a name book, liked it, then let it sit in our heads for the next month or two (since we didn't find it until about 2 months before I delivered) and decided that we still liked it so then it was set!
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")?
Ohh, this is a hard one. We don't have TV, so not sure about this one. I think we'll probably start with a movie and I think he probably needs to have enough attention span to last that long to actually sit through one--so maybe 2?
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"?
I dunno actually. I was pretty excited but nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I think that that point, I was just looking forward to not being nauseous anymore =P so maybe that was how I mentally prepared for it.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier?
I thought that taking a shower while in labor (I took one before going to the hospital since I knew I might not be able to shower/wash my hair for a while) really eased off the pain. I think if I had a choice, I'd keep taking that shower until I delivered =P
Oh this is a good tip! Standing/sitting in the shower was the ONLY natural pain relief that worked for me. Breathing, visualization, massage (I actually told Ben to "get your hands OFF me!") didn't work, but the water really helped! The nurse offered to help me get into a bath but I was too scared I wouldn't be able to get back out because I was so huge lol.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
11 months and 1 week old
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling good! Found out today that I made the short list for that job I interviewed for before the holidays...not sure when the second interview will be, but soon I think! *fingers crossed*
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Libby's first birthday will be on the 22nd. We're doing it at a Kindemusik studio...hopefully it'll be fun for the littles!
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
My mom's out of town, so it's just me and J juggling Libby during the work day...not undoable, but SO much easier when my mom is here to cover us at the beginning/end of our work days. Also, Libby continues to wake up at 2 or 3 a.m. and take about an hour to get back down. Our rocker broke and it's been interesting to try to get her back to sleep without it. Got it back just now, so whew for tonight! Just our luck, she'll sleep through, which would be welcome.
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name?
Originally, we liked Olivia Grace but then felt it was too "popular" and that we'd have "Olivia W." or something once she started school. So then we decided to name her after our moms...my mom'd middle name is Elizabeth and MILs middle name is Joan. We thought Libby was a nice nickname for Elizabeth (rather than Beth or Betty or Lizzy, etc.) and although we do call her by her full first name from time to time, we mainly call her Libby. It suits her spunky personality for sure!
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")?
Not until at least two. We only have one TV in the house and its in my mom's room. We don't get cable, so she mainly does Netflix and some network shows. I don't see us going back to TV anytime soon, so really, it would be a kid-movie or something. Maybe closer to 3 we'll take her to see a Disney or Pixar movie in the theater. Screen time will definitely be limited...including computer time, TV, etc. Maybe 30 minutes/day and later, perhaps an hour. The Obamas only let their girls watch TV on the weekends, which I think is a good approach too.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"?
I meditated a lot, especially after 34 weeks and also did positive imagery, etc. It helped that I was getting NSTs weekly so I could easily visualized the birthing room, etc.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier?
First and foremost, trust your instincts
Secondly, do what works for you, even if you originally were against it...for us that has meant bedsharing.
Third, swaddling and the 5 S's from "Happiest Baby on the Block" were lifesavers when she was under 4 months old.
One handy "trick" for out and about....baby legs OVER the heel of her shoes...keeps them on! Of couse, that'll only work until they're walking!
(9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
Not TTC just yet, but started charting again now that PPAF came and went...we'll see how it goes. I am not taking my BBT since I don't get consistent sleep at all, but tracking CM patterns, AF and in a cycle or two will bust out the CBEFM so come summer I hope to have a good idea of when I am fertile each cycle.
TTC/PG Blog | Mommy Blog
8 weeks already!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling...okay. Day to day is going well, doing better with the reflux - not sure what it is, a combo of or one of: feeding more upright, the Zantac, or the probiotics. But...we just scheduled E for surgery next Wednesday
The surgeon confirmed during our follow-up appt that his perirectal abscess was caused by a fistula that needs to be fixed, or it'll get infected again eventually. I am so not looking forward to it...I'm still figuring out how to deal. Right now, I'm just avoiding thinking about it.
sigh. the kid can't catch a break...
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
We seem to be going to the dr about once a week for one reason or another. 2 month appt (and shots) on Monday - unless we need to reschedule due to surgery, still waiting to hear back.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Finding out E needs surgery.(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name?
We've always wanted something a bit old-fashioned and "English" (eg: MH is Walter, he has friends Oliver, Leighton, Winston, ...). We each made a short list of names we liked, and when we compared, there was only overlap for 1 name, which we both then decided we didn't like, heh. My dentist (named Eric, obviously) had jokingly said that Eric was a good name, but that reminded me that I liked it - but it didn't meet our old English criteria. I kept going back to it though, and when we went to the hospital, we were down to 2 names, and MH said I should choose - the other option was more old English, but in the end, I just liked the name Eric more, so that's what we went with! We didn't finalize his name until almost 2 days after his birth.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")?
We still need to discuss this, but my thought is not until at least two. We don't have cable and don't really watch tv anyway - MH occasionally turns on a football game, I watch 1 show online. I'm more concerned about the computer - MH and I are on our laptops all.the.time.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"?
The things that helped me the most were 1. learning about the mechanics/process of what happens during birth, 2. having a long list of pain management techniques that I could try, when the time came (and having practiced them in our childbirth classes), 3. reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, and 4. feeling empowered - that my body was designed to do this, that I could do it, etc.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier?
Once you feel up to it after the baby comes, try to get out of the house or have something to look forward to (eg: a friend visit) once a day, even if it's just for a walk around the block, or to the grocery store. Doing so has really helped me stay sane and break up the endless days of feeding, burping, changing, sleeping, repeat.TTC/PG Blog | Mommy Blog
agreed. hopefully this is all E needs and he will be perfectly healthy from here on out! Lots of positive, healthy vibes headed to E and your family.
Have fun! We go every Saturday, and we LOVE it!
This is a good one I had already forgotten about! Even MH would marvel at how well it worked for H when he'd get fussy.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?feeling good, though still getting over the cold that I got from Miss A (which she got from sitting on Santa's germy lap!) she now says "no" to us all.the.timemy friend gave us an Eric Carle bilingual book really cool!) that is about colors so she now says "rojo" (red) oh! and she now knows how to crawl down the stairs!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?15 month vaccines for her and annual exam/pap for me in early Feb
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?just wrestling w/the idea of whether to TTC #2 or notthat and she is going through a phase right now w/not wanting to eat very many things (including things she has loved in the past). not sure if it is teething or she is just learning that she can choose what she eats? hoping she will outgrow it very soon b/c right now all she wants to eat is sweet things like grapes, dried apricots, raisins, etc
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name?
we flipped through name books, came up with our own lists and then compared to see if either of liked a name on the other's list. Analise was just about the only name he liked on my list - luckily it was the favorite one on my list
I liked it based on how it sounds and the meaning (grace, or graced with God's bounty). we were going to spell it Analise (our preference) but when a friend pointed out that she would get teased in school as "anal"-ise we changed it to Annalise
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")?
not until she is 2 or 3, haven't decided yet
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"?
I just kept telling myself that if millions of other women can do it, so can I
I also knew that any preconceived notions or child birth plans I had would have to be flexible b/c you just never know what will happen when the time comes....
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier?
I recently discovered that stickers are a GREAT distraction for the changing table!

haha, i should have read your post before replying...this pretty much sums up how I was too.
I definitely found that once Miss A learned to roll onto her tummy that she preferred sleeping that way and would sleep for longer stretches!!
I always put her down
on her back but she'd immediately flip to her tummy so we stopped the
swaddle cold turkey and I let her be a tummy sleeper. she did this for
months....now she sleeps in every which way...on her back, side, tummy,
etc. she moves around a lot while sleeping!
have you been doing saline flushes up his nose? that can help a lot! it's like the neti pot for adults but you don't need one of those, you can make your own saline....
yay! congrats! sending continued good vibes your way that you land this new job
poor guy! i'm sorry he has to have surgery but I hope it goes smoothly and he has a quick recovery! much better than getting another abscess
btw - when I told MH about his spitting up and your suspected dairy problem he said that he thought reflux was much more likely...but i forgot to tell you and by the time i remembered you had already figured it out
sorry! glad it is getting better though!

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? just shy of 14 months
(2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? he started blowing kisses, which is really cute. He also does "touchdown" hands and claps when something is good
(3) Next appointment date? next month - 15 mo checkup/shots
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? tantrums when it's bedtime. We are figuring out how to get him to sleep in his own room soon. MH and I just don't have any time with each other, and it's finally starting to affect us.
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? MH is a IIIrd, and while he wanted to carry on tradition, he didn't like his middle name and I hated it. I also didn't want my kid to be a IVth. So we debated the middle name for awhile and decided to use my father's middle name since it would be his (and his father's) first name.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? I didn't really put much thought into it, as MH is a TV junkie and since he is the SAH parent, I know DS would be getting plenty of TV exposure.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? I didn't. I got more scared as the day approached, but I figured hey, I'm getting pain meds, so it'll be fine, millions of women do this in the fields and go back to work the same day, I'll get through it.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? I find that everything changes as soon as you get used to something, so just be prepared for everything to change constantly, and know that your kid is unique and you will have to make your own decisions, and at times it will be frustrating. Ask questions here - they get answered well!
That is a great tip! I loved laboring in the shower - I only got out after awhile b/c I was afraid the hot water would run out and I didn't want to deal with that, lol
+1 - I'm so sorry he's going to need surgery! He's had such a rough ride so far...hopefully this is the beginning of things going smoother for him!
Ditto. Lots of vibes for a smooth surgery and recovery!
Oh, I haven't flushed, just squirted and sucked =P I'll try the flushing
Thanks for the tip!
This made me LOL so hard!
LOL it's pretty funny looking back on it, but at the time I was just soooo wrapped up in what I was doing that his touch was too distracting - I needed to focus. So when he put his hands on my back, I whipped around and snarled that he'd better back off. Poor man was just trying to help. He must have thought I'd snapped mentally.
1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 7 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? he is army crawling and trying really hard to master the on all fours crawling but he can go pretty fast on his belly.
He fell off our bed a few days ago and gave hisself a black eye. He naps better in our bed so I always just put him down on the bed and surround him with pillows and he is fine usually. I had put him down and then checked on him a couple of times then about 30 min into his nap I heard a thud went running in there and I guess he crawled over the pillow b/c it was still where I put it and I found him on the floor on all fours screaming except for the black all seemed to be ok
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 9 mon
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? still trying to change his diaper while he crawls away
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? We wanted to use MH middle name as his and then we decided that we wanted his name to start with a M like his so they would have the same initials. Mason was the first name we came up with and both liked and it stuck.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? we have the tv on all the time so he will look at it when something catches his attention and we have turned on the baby channel just to calm him down and it seemed to help
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? I was bad I did nothing except read everyone's birth story on here. I missed the registration date for childbirth class and MH said they were a waste anyway (he had a least been through the process before with his other 3 kids). I knew I wanted an epi and I figured the nurses would tell me what to do so I didn't sweat it.
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? Like some of the others I keep the bumbo seat and a few toys in the bathroom. I sit him in it in the mornings while I get ready and then i can put him in it real quick to use the bathroom.
This is a tip a friend of mine gave me and it is a great one. I was fussing about washing little socks and mittens and dropping them everywhere when getting them out of the dryer and she told me to use a lingerie bag to put the little things in to wash that way they stay all together and the dryer never eats a sock and the bags are only like a $1 at walmart.
How did I not think of this before now?!? This.is.genius. I freaking hate pairing up all those socks, and there's this one spot in the washing machine where the occasional sock can get stuck and it makes me crazy. This would solve all of those problems!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? almost 11mo.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? a 5th tooth broke through, he had a cold that sounds worse than it must be because I stayed home with him yesterday and he wore me out.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nada
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? the yucky sounding cough, poor guy.
(5) How did you decide/are you deciding on LO's name? he's a IV, so it was a family name, although DH was not immediately sold on continuing that tradition so we did have another boy name picked out first (Noah). Jack is a (somewhat) common nickname for John and I really liked the name Jack and it suits him, I'm glad we picked it. We already had Jack when DH lost his grandfather and I think it really made him happy to know that his granddad (who is way more into family tradition than the rest of them) knew that there was a IV, although he was really sad they never got to meet.
(6) When do you plan to expose your kids to TV (as in "watch an entire child's program" not "they caught 15 seconds here and there")? Age 2 or 3? Anytime after 2 when he seems interested, but we will still limit it to the weekends, maybe evenings when he is older. Although I would like to, I can't really be a stickler about no TV b/c DH is a TV junkie when it comes to sports. We never turn on children's programming but he does get more than glimpses here and there b/c his main play area shares the same space as DH's sports bar man cave that has 3 TV's on the wall. Oh well. We do make an effort to give Jack quiet time before bed so the TVs are turned off or me and him hang out in another room.
The other TV in our house in the main kitchen/dining/small family room. It swivels and I use to watch the news while cooking and eating breakfast but I don't do that anymore because I don't want him to think the TV needs to be on all the time (DH thinks so and I don't like that). I didn't watch much TV as a child and still could do with out it. It's something we have to compromise on.
(7) How do/did you mentally prepare to give birth? How do you get your mindset to think "hey, I can do this"? well, I typed a long response in a recent post from Kshiz...
(8) Any "mom to mom" tips or tricks that really work for you or make your life easier? I usually only do baby laundry once a week and then I lay out an outfit for each day. Now DH can't say he doesn't know what to put him in, etc and I never have to run around looking for socks for him. Also, when traveling I roll an outfit for him for each day so that I can just pull out one roll per day and leave everything else packed and organized.
Also, I pump and then pour the milk directly into bottles for the next day and then just leave them at daycare overnight when I pick him up (and just bring home the dirty/empty ones to clean).
I guess I just love things that save us time in the morning!
(9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
thanks ladies. I was alternating between being angry and sad, but mostly just in denial and not thinking about it. I'm sure I'll be a mess on Wednesday. MH is taking the day off, and my MIL is flying in to help also. thanks for the all the vibes - I'll take all we can get!
heh, yeah...i'm still avoiding most obvious sources of dairy, but slowly adding it back in, b/c 1. dairy is in everything and so hard to avoid! and 2. E still spits up a lot sometimes, but it's impossible to correlate it with anything anymore. so who knows! i may as well enjoy eating the foods i want
thanks though!
