Question: one is conjested, the other is getting it

I forgot what we can give them this early on?  Can I try to give them some infant Tylenol (store brand of course).  Jonathan is super conjected, you can hear it in his throat and his lungs when he breathes, but no coughing, no sneezing and no runny nose.  Joshua is super cranky and i'm afraid he's next.  Of course i'll call the doc on Monday, but this doesn't really qualify as an "emergency" for after hour calls.  Any suggestions?  Thanks ladies!

  • You can give Infant's Tylenol (acetaminophen) at this age.  My pedi has a dosage list by weight:

    6-11 lb ? 1/2 dropper (0.4 ml)

    12-17 lb ? 1 dropper (0.8 ml)

    18-23 lb ? 1-1/2 dropper (1.2 ml)

    24-35 lb ? 2 droppers (1.6 ml)

At 6 months you can give Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil).

  • Not sure if tylenol will help much but you can give it at this age. Try the humidifier and maybe some Baby Vicks vapor rub on the bottoms of their feet. You could also elevate the head of their crib with a book under the mattress to help with drainage. Hope you get some sleep!

    Yes
  • Oh no!! It sucks when they're sick, because you're so limited in what can be done.  We she was still not moving around the crib, we would elevate the head also.  I think this prevented her from getting ear infections when she was younger, because her sinuses could drain and not pool in her ears and fester.  We can't do that now, because there's no telling where she'll be in the crib throughout the night.  We use the vaporizer and snot sucker of course.

I sure hope Jonathan feels better real soon, and that N and Joshua stay healthy as well.

  • Excellent ladies!  Thank you very much.  Went to the store to get some "fake" Infant's Tylenol and got the vaporizer out of the closet.  Hope tonight will be full of sleep...

  • Actually, it does qualify as emergency since they are infants. Call the answering service and press the corresponding number for emergency or stay on the line. That's what the doctors on call are for, and they expect phone calls like that. For real emergencies you go to ER, otherwise you call the answering service.
