Compression garment after C-section?

I've heard mixed reviews on using them and I'm just curious if any of you ladies plan on purchasing one? I just don't know if it's worth the money as many that I've seen are pretty expensive. I'm am definitely open to buying one if it's really worth it. WDYT?

  • You can probably get one at the hospital.

  • I didn't use one.  I had a very easy c/s recovery so I don't know if someone who is having a harder time might benefit more from it.  But I certainly didn't need one.

Actually my incision never bothered me after my c/s, which really surprised me.

I didn't use it because it made my incision feel like it was going to burst open. After using it, my incision ended up bleeding.

Ugh, that sucks. This is good to know.

  • the hospital provided me with one.  I loved it and wore if for weeks.   I felt all loose and unsupported without it.

  • I was totally unprepared for my c-section and didn't have any higher-waisted underwear on hand or any pants that didn't hit in the wrong place, so this time I'm planning ahead just in case. I looked at the compression belt things but they don't seem like they'll be comfortable for sitting and I worry they'll shift around and rub like the PP said. I ordered a few pairs of these underwear instead - they seem like they'll be really comfortable with just enough pressure to not move around over the incision (I tried them on sucking my stomach in at 25 wks and they are definitely not going to be uncomfortably tight, just nice and fitting).

This exactly.  This is my 3rd c/s and I plan on bringing mine with me to the hospital.  You have to make sure it is positioned very tight and does not interfere with your incision.

  • The hospital gave me 2... I wouldn't bother buying one.

I really really really appreciated mine. I had an emergency c-section and was absolutely terrified my gut was going to burst open and my organs would fall out (I didn't really know much about what was happening because I never in a million years expected a c/s). The band was the only thing that made me feel like it was even possible for me to move... let alone get out of bed and walk. I wore it for about a week after I got home too, then got rid of it because it started irritating me and I was pretty confident I wasn't going to have my intestines spill out anymore.
