I didn't want a c-section because I'd already had three major abdominal surgeries, and I really didn't want another.  Especially not another when I'd be recovering with a baby in the house.  On top of that, doctors recommend a longer wait period between pregnancies if you've had a section and I just don't have that kind of time.  :)

Also?  Scar adhesions.  Dude, they HURT.  The internal scars I had from my previous surgeries stretched out and kind of tore, and it hurt like a mofo.

I had Margaux med-free (it happened too fast for them to give me anything anyway) and my recovery was super-fast, and I had no trouble walking around and going to the bathroom the same day.  If I can do that again you BET I will.

    I didn't want C-section b/c of longer recovery. I was also able to walk, go to the bathroom, and pick up my baby a couple of hours after the delivery. I wasn't in any pain b/c I had the epidural done. Of course everyone's circumstances are different, but why have surgery if it's possible to avoid it?

    Well in the end I guess it doesn't matter how they come out as long as they get here safely.  And it sounds like Margaux was cooperative, but not all babies are.  Simon still hadn't dropped at 41 weeks (he was so high up he had to be vacuumed out during the c-section!) and I was zero percent dilated so I wasn't about to risk the 35% chance of failed induction and subsequent emergency c-section (which carries a higher risk of infection and longer recovery than a scheduled c-section).  After waiting 41 weeks to meet my baby, why wait another 1-4 days while being induced when he could be out in 20 minutes?  The risk of stillbirth goes up in women over 40 who go past 40 weeks, so I wanted him out ASAP!  The whole birth experience was nice and relaxing, I checked into the hospital for my 8 p.m. surgery, chatted with DH and the doctors during delivery and around 9 p.m. I was back in my room breastfeeding my baby.  My recovery was minimal, I was able to pick him up right away, was up and running around the hospital the next day and went home with nothing more than Motrin for the pain and had resumed all normal activities like driving within 2 weeks.  I understand your reasons for not wanting a c-section given your previous history with abdominal surgery, etc. but all I'm saying is don't let it scare you if you end up having to have one with your second baby.  I had a great experience with my c-section and if I had it to do all over again you BET I would!

    Yeah, I'm not ANTI c-section, I'm just hoping if I end up needing one at some point it's on the last baby.  My only super-beef with the procedure is that it makes subsequent pregnancies tricker.

    Margaux had a seriously pointy head, though!  We were actually worried about it.  Thank goodness it rounded out!  I'll grant that for c-sections, it tends to give you prettier newborns!

    M had to be suctioned so he had a big ol' bump and bruise on the top of his head, but they both went away within 24 hours. I guess he was just meant to have his dad's super round noggin.

    In the beginning of my pregnancy with Sarah, I was considering an elective c-section but I quickly decided against it because of the much longer recovery period. I was able to run again a week after giving birth and ran a full marathon 2 months later. That wouldn't have been possible with a c-section. Of course if it had been necessary, I would have taken the c-section but my labor was so easy that I am not even worried about it this time around. It's over so quickly.
