Anyone here have them? I just got the results of my ultrasound and it looks like I have one and it measures 8.3 cm. Does this seem big or am I just freaked out? TYIA
I just had one removed. It was about that size. My Dr. said it was about softball size when removed. It is on the larger size according to my Dr, but he took care of it. Did he talk about surgery to remove it? GL!
Thanks summer. Yeah when the doctor held up her hands to show me about how big it is, I said "as big as a softball" I have another appointment early November to discuss my options. How was surgery? Hope everything went well and hope you recover quick.
That is a good size fibroid....Ive seen them up to like 10 cm and bigger. Only reason you would need to worry about it in pregnancy is its location because if it is close to your cervix, it may affect how you can deliver. But only once in 2.5 years have I seen a baby affected by a fibroid, and I mean, this sucker was huuuuge....like 15 CM or something....
The surgery for me was okay. I basically had a C-section. If I had more recovery time at the hospital, it would have went easier, I think. It took me about 3 weeks to move around good around the house. I was about 5 before I really felt good again (had to go back to school). Now I am prepared though for my future C-sections.
There is another girl on here, Sulfababy, who has a fiboroid as well. They are thinking hers might be able to be done lapriscopic (spelling is bad).
There are many options. I hope everything is goes well for you. Keep me updated! Let me know if you have any questions.
Yes, location is important. If mine was on the outside, they might not have done the surgery. Mine was inside. My Dr. said there would be no room for a baby to grow with it being that larger. He felt better taking it out and so did I.
Outside of your uterus? Outer lining of your uterus? Does that sounds as stupid as when I typed it? That was my thought, would a little baby have any room to grow? Since you had the surgery when you deliver your future babies you will have to have a C-section?
I am super curious, thanks for answering all my questions.
LOL, no it didn't sound stupid. That is how my Dr.explained it to me. They can grow on the outside (on top) of your uterus too.
My first Dr. kept letting it grow. We found it over a year ago at 2 cm. The last time he saw me it was up to 5 or 6. He didn't seem to care. I went for a second opinion when he told me "i could have the surgery if I want", but wouldn't explain more. I love my new Dr.
I will have to have C-sections with my future kids. My Dr. said because my uterus is weakened from the size and placing of the fibroid.
I don't mind talking about it. After all I went through with this, I am glad to talk to someone else about it. It can be a little scary/overwhelming.
Well, Im not a doctor, but I dont believe that it can affect you getting pregnant, most fibroids Ive seen are within the uterine tissue or pedunculated (which means there is a little stalk connecting it to your uterus and the fibroid is sitting outside of your uterus)...So the patient with the 15 cm fibroid, hers was within the endometrium which is where the sac also grows, and it caused her baby growth restriction. But again-Iv only seen this one time in 2.5 years....Ive heard that they only remove them if it causes you pain or trouble. They can cause things like heavy periods or bad cramping.
Her fibroid was that big to begin I believe. Fibroids can get bigger or smaller during pregnancy, but Ive never seen an 8 cm get up to a 15 cm one...its usually a very slight growth. Hope this is helpful...again...dont worry!

Thanks Jen, that makes me feel a little better. So I should ask where it is located? Could this also affect getting pregnant?
So the woman with the 15 cm fibroid, did the fibroid grow during pregnancy or was it that big to begin with?
(sorry not Jen)

(no worries that you aren't Jen:)
