No, it's a great idea to do prenatal yoga at anytime as long as you be sure to do a gentle yoga DVD designed for pregnancy or find a class with an instructor who knows about prenatal yoga. There are certain postures that are not recommended and there are a lot of modifications that can be done with boulsters and pillows so you can still get the benefits of the pose in a safe way.
It will loosen you up and help with the aches and pains as you get bigger. I did prenatal yoga up until about 8 months and it was awesome. I don't think it matters when you start as long as you take it easy and listen to your body.
Yes, I think it's safe. In fact, I think it's safer that continuing to do nothing. Just listen to your body and don't do anything that hurts. An instructed class is safer than a DVD, especially if you haven't done any yoga previously.
Honestly, I think the "don't start any new exercise in pregnancy" idea is way overstated and does more harm than good. Doing no exercise in pregnancy also has health implications. Yoga feels so good.

I think this statement is more geared towards people who didn't work out BEFORE they were pregnant. But I agree with you--if you were active before your pregnancy then go for it. I didn't do yoga or pilates before I got pregnant and just signed up for classes (granted I did a lot of bootcamp classes and I'm a runner, but still).
Even a total couch potato with an uncomplicated pregnancy can pick up some exercise while pregnant. It's not the time to train for a marathon or start up serious body building, but typical prenatal workouts (walking, water aerobics, prenatal yoga or pilates, elliptical, stationary bike, etc) are much more likely to do good than harm.
Re: Is it bad if I start a prenatal yoga regimen at 23 weeks?
