"cocktail attire"..what to wear?

i am going to a party at my now ex-boss's (resigned while im on mat leave) house tonight. the attire is "cocktail". i know this may be a stupid question but do i have to wear a cocktail dress or anything dressy will be fine? it's 30 degrees here so i dont really feel like dressing up but at the same time i dont wanna be the only one who's dressed down. i have a black kimono style dress im thinking i could wear or i can also wear wool pants with a nice dressy sweater. or should i find other little black dress? tia!

    Personally, I'd wear the slacks and sweater this temp at 30 degrees! You can add some sparkly jewelry (earrings and necklace or brooch) and wear "evening" make-up and hair and shoes and it should work. Same for the kimono-style black dress. There will probably be some women in more "club" or going-out type dresses and the guys will probably all be in slacks and button down.

    Thanks! i may just wear the dressy pants and silk blouse. i dont feel like wearing a dress today lol.
