Wooden baby name letters

Just curious if anyone has bought and/or made wooden letters for their babies names to hang in the nursery. I found some on etsy I just LOVE but I'm wondering if I should try to make a go of a DIY project for this, anyone DIY or buy?

  • I bought them for my son and plan to get some for the girls when I have a little extra cash! :)  Look on Ebay too, lots of people make them.  I'm not crafty and didn't want to chance DIY so I just bought them.  I'm sure they are simple to make on your own if you want to try it.  I LOVE the letters in my son's room! :)  They add a lot, especially since we were renting at the time and unable to paint the nursery.

  • Holy wow, $8 a letter?!?  Actually $9+ with shipping!  You can make them for so much less than that, and they're really easy to do.

Just about any craft store will carry wooden letters.  You can even find them already painted white so you won't have to do that step, and they shouldn't cost any more than $2 a letter (and way less than that in some stores).  Find some scrapbook paper that you like, trace the letter faces onto the paper, cut out, and glue to the front of the letter.  You can use rickrack, ribbons, wood cut-outs, or really anything to decorate them as well if you want.  You can hang them with ribbon (staple gun it to the top of the letter if you need to), or what I did is I got a poster frame with a really thick piece of cardboard, painted the cardboard, and then screwed the letters onto it with the frame around it so it was all one piece instead of having to hang a bunch of letters individually.  It's also nice since we rent and can't paint walls, and doing it that way gave me a background other than boring white.

Here's one of their names when it was all finished.

  • https://nikinikinine.blogspot.com/2010/12/twins-nursery.html I made ours using letters bought from craft stores sample paint jars, and mod podge/scrapbooking paper. It's really easy to do. There are 26 R's on our wall and it cost me less than $50 to put this together.
  • When I was pregnant withy daughter, I bought all the wooden letters and the paint at michaels. It was a very fun little project to do and non expensive. It came out looking beautiful and professional cause I took my time. After the paint dries I then added 1 small flower sticker to each letter on upper or lower corners, I bet you can come up with so many cute ideas I'd you check out michaels. The two paint colors were white and pink :) etsy is cute but they Rob the hell outta you! When I hung her name over the crib I had a lot of people complimenting and where I bought it. I was happy it was my little project to my baby! :)

  • I bought letters at hobby lobby.  I think they were on sale for 1.49 per letter.  I painted them with the same paint we used for the nursery.

  • I painted my own too.  Cheap Hobby Lobby letters and the same paint as the nursery.  You can't see them super well, but I thought they turned out pretty well.  We have a Denver Nuggets themed nursery, and they matched how the letters look on the jersery.
