In completing your registry, what items to you suggest making sure you have for the baby right away? It seems like people would rather get you cute things than what you actually need. I want to make sure I buy the things we will definitely need rather than all the unnecessary fluff that BRU makes you feel like you need.
Or does anyone have a good link of this list? The things I can think of are car seat, diapers, wipes, feeding supplies, receiving blankets, nursing pads/creams. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!
Re: 2nd time moms: What registry items are essential?
Off the top of my head this is what I came up with.
Carseat
Place for baby to sleep (PNP, bassinet, or crib)
Boppy or bottles (depending on if you're BFing or FFing)
Diapers/wipes
Bouncy seat (to have a place to lay baby if you need to get something done, bouncy is good because they're easy to move around)
Swaddle Me's (much easier to use than a receiving blanket IMO)
Breast pads/lanolin
Hmmm...
car seat
bassinet or pack n play for baby to be in room with you
diapers, wipes
baby medical supplies (thermometer, gauze and vaseline-if a boy and circumsizing, alcohol wipes for umbilical cord, nasal bulb, diaper cream)
feeding supplies (bottles if needed, breastpump if needed with cleaning wipes and storage bags, nursing pads/creams, Boppy or My Breastfriend, bottle warmer-I got one with a cooler attached and loved that in the middle fo the night I could just grab one and heat it, no trip to the kitchen, burping cloths or bibs-I used cloth diapers for burping cloths)
receiving blankets and lots of sleepers (although people will get you a bunch), maybe a swaddler or sleepsack
swing (when DD wouldn't sleep at night and I was exhausted, I would put her in it and she would fall asleep, I would lay on the couch right next to her)
That's all I can think of right now.
I just uploaded the 3-page list of essentials to Scribd:
https://www.scribd.com/doc/46481465/The-Ultimate-Registry-Cheat-Sheet
It tells you when you need what, etc...
If you get the vaseline for a boy, I recommend getting the kind in a tube. It is easier to put on without using your finger and risk hurting him.
Crib sheets
PnP or bassinet sheets
Changing table pads and covers
Boppy and cover
Pacifiers (this is optional and only if you plan on using them: get a few different kinds, just in case)
Waterproof pads (can be used on the changing table, on the couch, for going out somewhere, etc.)
Infant/Toddler bath tub
Baby toiletries (bath stuff, diaper changing needs, lotions, etc.)
Washcloths and towels
Baskets or organizers for the nursery
Thermometer
Infant nail clippers
First aid kit
White noise machine
Baby books and music
Diaper bag
Baby carrier (or baby wearer)
Playmat for tummy time
Baby Monitor
Crib mobile or a sleep soother
Any accessories you like for the nursery
Baby memory book
Baby keepsake box and/or handprint and footprint keepsake
Batteries
You can also put some bigger priced items, in case family or friends want to go in together, such as a high chair, swing, stroller, 3-in-1 exersaucer, bouncy chair, etc.
This is all I can think of for now. I was trying to picture everything that was in DD's nursery and diaper bag when we brought her home, so I'm sure I probably forgot some stuff
My essentials list would include the following:
-Place for baby to sleep (crib, PnP, bassinet) though if I was going minimal I would choose crib only because of the longevity.
-Feeding supplies (bottles, pump, milk bags, lanolin (check to make sure you are not allergic to it I found out the hard way that I am), while nice a boppy is not needed IMO))
-Car seat
-carrier (Moby, Ergo, etc. it seriously saved my sanity)
-Swing (again it saved my sanity. It's a great place to sleep if they have a cold or are having a bad bout of reflux.)
-Gas drops
-sleepers and plain oneies
-Zout (removes stains like magic!)
-If you pump I recommend a cheap sports bra that you cut small slits into for hands free pumping.
-swaddling blanket or some type of miracle blanket (along these lines I recommend ready Happiest Baby On The Block before your LO gets here)
-Diapering supplies (diapers, wipes, butt paste)
-Plain cloth diapers for burp rags
That is all I can think of right now. HTH!
- Furniture and Bedding: A crib and changing table, sheets, crib savers, blankets, changing pad and covers
- Feeding supplies: Bottles, a Boppy, bibs, burp cloths
- Diapering: Diapers, wipes, A+D ointment
- Bathing: A sponge mat or baby bath, wash cloths, towels, baby wash (something gentle, no fragrance), and lotion
- Soothing: A swing and/or bouncer, pacifiers, receiving blankets or swaddlers, a SleepSheep (or white noise machine)
- Clothing: Onesies, one piece outfits, sleepers, hats
- General Care: Baby Tylenol, gas drops, nail file and clippers
- Travel: Car seat, stroller, a BundleMe, diaper bag
I agree with everything that PPs said. There is one thing that I always seem to forget about and that is the little mittens to put on their hands so they don't scratch themselves in the face or the sleepers that have the sleeves you can fold over.
I've been saving older posts with similar advice. HTH!

DS born Dec 10, 2013
Swing (the ONLY place our kids would sleep due to reflux)
burp cloths/bibs/sheet changes/outfit changes (can you tell my kids were pukers? lol!)
and the things you mentioned - carseat, diapers, wipes, etc.
Honestly they don't need much at first. We loved having a pack and play later so baby could sleep in our room.
