nite light? for either floor bed or toddler bed sleepers

sprout sleeps in her crib for the first part of the night, and she comes to bed with us after a first waking. we're preparing to move her out of the crib to a floor bed soon. her room is dark at night, no nite lite, black-out shades, etc. do i need to get her some minimal light source before we change her sleeping arrangements?

we'll re-double our childproofing in there before she's out of the crib. still, it seems like there could be real problems with a toddler waking up in near total blackness and fumbling around. she's used to sleeping in the dark, but she's used to standing at the crib rail and hollering for us when she's ready to get up/out too.

do you have a light in LO's free-range room?

  • I do, but it's been hard to get the brightness to seem "right".  It's a drugstore nightlight, maybe 4W?  But I have it hidden behind a box of wipes so we're not looking straight at the filament, and a quilt draped over the crib rail blocks the light even more.  (Note, we're not using the crib as a sleeping place right now.)  Have you seen those flat green ones that look like a glow-in-the-dark star?  That might be a better brightness.
