If you've had a plugged duct...

how long did it take to unplug it?

My left breast is troublesome. Not only does it produce less, but I had a plugged duct last week. I heated, massaged and pumped twice and it was gone in the morning. My OB gave me an antibiotic because he suspected mastitis since I had a little fever. I just finished the antibiotic and now have a plugged duct on the other side of my left breast . This sucks. I'm doing everything I did before and it's still pretty tender and sore, but the mass is not as hard. I'm just a little woried since the first time it was gone within 24 hours.

  • It took 2 days for me.  I did the same as you- heated, massaged, and pumped.

This, but you need to be pumping or feeding on that breast every two to three hours.

I "lucked" out- DS had a growth spurt those 2 days, so he basically cluster fed for 48 fun-filled hours.

  • After it goes away, I would consider massaging and compressions before and during the feeding, I should think that would help.

  • Thanks for all the advice ladies. I took some ibuprofen and it's feeling a little better. You've all given me great pointers! Thanks!
