Secondary IF

Do you know...?

The cause of your Secondary Infertility? Do you think it was factor when you got pregnant the first time or is it a new issue?

We are dealing with low sperm count (it was severe and has improved significantly with a varicocele repair) and now I have elevated FSH.

It took us 6 months to get pregnant the first time, but we had no idea that we had any major fertility issues. I (and DH's urologist) think DH's count was always probably at least borderline low and the varicococele made it worse over the last couple of years. As for the FSH, that's a new finding. It's pretty unbelievable that it is elevated now at age 26, so I'm pretty sure that wasn't an issue back when I was 23(almost 24) and got pregnant.

Re: Do you know...?

  • I **think** my SIF is a result of my abnormal luteal phase bleeding...but the cause of the bleeding is undetermined.  Technically though, I am still unexplained. Luckily, I did not have any trouble getting pregnant with DD.

I hope you get your BFP soon!

  • It's an ongoing issue we had when TTC DS, although it's taking us longer this time.  I have PCOS, weak ovulation (spot everyday after ovulating when not on meds), and only one ovary and tube.  DH does have sperm morphology issues, but RE is concerned about mine, especially since we were able to get pregnant with DS and our m/c last spring.

    Good luck to you!

  • DH has low sperm count which has always been an issue. I also think there is something about my cycles that don't give us a good chance each time although nothing has ever been diagnosed. My tests came back fine, but my cycles have always been sort of short and variable and I don't believe that isn't a factor.

  • I had no problem getting pregnant with my son.  My problem is that I developed thyroid disease after his birth.

  • We are dealing with unexplained SIF. All tests (both mine and DH's) came back perfect. We didn't have any issues TTC with DD.

Do you mind if I ask what your DH's counts are?

  • We had problems getting pregnant with DS and have the same problem this time. I have PCOS and do not ovulate at all on my own.

  • we believe ours is related to my csection i had with my first dc. we just found out that basically there is a hole in my uterus and we think its collecting fluid and making implantation difficult. Which is actually a good thing b/c my doc said if we got pg with this hole and made it til the later weeks (25 plus) that it would probably have ended badly. So we are going to try and fix the hole with surgery in a few weeks and hopefully it will stop collecting this fluid.

It's all such a mess and so scary!!

I don't have a copy of the results from this past august, but it wasn't great and from may 2006 it was around 17 million and below average for most of the categories. Post wash for the iui was 9 million.

It wasn't absolutely horrible and my RE said we could get pg with those numbers without help,. He was right since I concieved 3 times on my own.  That's why I think there is something else making it so difficult b/c it took 9-10 cycles really trying for the 1st, 2 cycles for the 2nd, 13 cycles for the 3rd.
