Do you still dress LO in onesies? *clicky*

Most of DS' clothes are onesies and pants.  I really don't like putting him in regular shirts.  I don't know why - maybe because it's cold and the shirts don't stay put.  But he is starting to get really long and the onesies aren't fitting so well anymore so I ultimately will have to switch over.

Do you still use onesies (or one piece shirts/outfits) to dress LO or are you pretty much away from those now and just use a regular shirt and pants/skirt?

Why am I neurotic about this? Embarrassed

  • Onesie and pants- I don't like DD's belly hanging out...

  • I think I'll start doing shirts when she begans potty training...

she would mess with the shirt and also, I think it helps with the diaper. DD has chunky legs so I had to move to a size up and the onesie keeps it sort of in place.

I'll do onesie + tshirt sometimes..

  • I can't find onesies that fit this chunker.
  • I often put a long sleeve white onesie with a short sleeve polo or t-shirt over it. I don't like his belly hanging out, but he has so many cute shirts. Best of both worlds...

  • We use the onesie as an undershirt

  • I LOVE the onesies! I hate when we put him in a "regular" shirt and you spend all day adjusting his shirt so that his belly isn't popping out! Luckily, he is still wearing size 9 months, so we have a while before we have to start wearing regular shirts!

  • Like others have said we put a onesie, shirt, and then pants. I hate for her belly to hang out too so we just stick a onesie under it and we are all good. Now if I could get some magic socks to keep on her feet. as soon as I put them on her if she isn't wearing shoes the socks are off in a matter of seconds.

  • Onesies underneath whatever shirt she is wearing.  She's inherited her daddy's long torso, so shirts are always a bit short on her and ride up over her chubby belly.  When we had this randomly warm day a week or two ago, I just had her in a shirt and jeans.  We were laughing at her plumber's butt!
  • We do onesies under shirts.  His belly hangs out otherwise and it's so cold out that I like him to have lots of layers on.

Abe's in Carter's 18 month size and they seem to fit well. Actually, he can still fit into some 12 month sizes, too.  He was 29.75 inches and 22lbs 10oz at his nine month appt.

I found "magic" socks! We found Hanes socks in toddler sizes at Target. They are definitely casual socks, but DS hasn't been able to pull them off yet!

We put a onesie under everything.  She always has a onesie + a shirt and pants.  Even if she's wearing a long-sleeved onesie as a shirt, we put a short sleeved one underneath.

Ditto this.  He even sleeps in a onsie under his jammies.  I think of them as undershirts.

  • I prefer the shirts for the ease in changing diapers.  Plus I think she looks funny with onesies. Not every baby...but mine does.

  • A mix of both. I don't like onesies...they're a PITA.
  • I only use onesies to bounce back and forth to my moms or mil's house. If we are going out he dresses in a t-shirt and pants. The onesie underneath depends on the weather. He gets hot easy and too many layers is not good for him.

I guess I'm the only one who likes his little "buddah" hanging out. It's not always out, but I love it when it does peak out.

  • I've never been a fan of the "tucked in" look that onsies give, but when it's cold I have a bunch of onsies that I put under her pant/shirts/ dresses, so she has an extra layer (and "undershirt effect" if you will)

  • I've only ever used onsies under something, like a dress or track suit. I hate onsies. I've always prefered shirts.
  • I think its just a matter of preference. My DS never had any onesie outfits ever as an infant and toddler.  I like clothes that look like little men's clothes. I always dressed him in a polo shirt or t-shirt with pants or shorts.

  • I don't quite no how to answer... DD *always* wears a onsie and pants but then I usually still put a regular shirt on over the onsie. We live in Wisconsin where it is freezing everyday! In the summer I usually have her in pants and a onsie or a romper.

  • The majority of LO's clothes are onesies & pants or one-piece outfits. We have a few shirts & pants outfits but it's really cold here and I like that onesies keep her completely covered.

  • DD is long and skinny - tiny little waist and no butt! Because of this pants that are long enough for her are super loose in the waist, so they constantly slide down and the top half of her diaper hangs out. That drives me crazy, so she wears onesies 99% of the time. She does have a few regular shirts, but doesn't wear them very often.

  • I am completely obsessed with keeping LO's tummy and back covered since it is so cold.  I was saying the other day that I don't know why this matters so much, but it does.  So...if he is wearing a regular shirt, we always put a short/sleeve undershirt underneath.

Carter's has bigger sizes - about the only ones that I have found that are true to size.

Same here. I can't find onesies over 12m though anywhere but Gap - and they are $15 a onesie. It is crazy!

  • I put light weight onsies as undershirts on underneath his shirts and sweaters mainly because it's so cold right now and he's crawling.  I prefer not to use them though and I stopped using them for DD after a few months since we were in Florida and she didn't need the extra insulation :)

  • I prefer shirts over onesies. But if we are just hanging out at home for the day I will sometimes just put a onesie on him with pants. After he outgrows the 12 month ones I won't buy anymore. I think they look weird on toddlers.

  • I just put a onsie under everything. So usually she has on a onsie, pants, and a shirt. That way if her shirt rides up there is still a onsie underneath. I dont really like the way just a onsie and pants looks.

  • LO is getting too long and too chunky for onsies. His thighs are pretty massive. at first I was bitter about it because I like onsies, but I'm starting to prefer shirts because it's easier to change his diaper.
  • We did onesies until he was a year old.  Now we do a 50/50 mix of onesies and shirts.

This exactly, DS always has two layers on whether that's a onesie and an open belly shirt or a onesie and a cuter/nicer onesie.

  • If we're leaving the house he'll have a onesie on so as to prevent the bare skin from sticking out.

At home, it just depends on the day. Usually I'll just do a tshirt and pants. But we do have some super cute polo shirt-onesies...it's a mood thing I guess.

If DH dresses him and we're homebound, he'll be in a t-shirt. Since having Jack, DH is firmly anti-snaps of any kind.

  • We stopped buying onsies a while ago, she's been in regular shirts and pants/skirts since September.  We don't really have a problem with her belly sticking out, once in a while a sweater will ride up but that's it.

  • I hate, hate, HATE putting DS in shirts because they always expose his formula gut but he has so many cute ones.  I may have to do what pp does and put a long sleeve onsie on underneath it.

Could you maybe get some of those onsie extender snaps?  I think they are sold on One Step Ahead but I think I've also seen them at BRU.

we were given an 18m outfit for christmas that has a onesie! it's like, the biggest onesie i've ever seen!

  • How weird, I was JUST wondering this same thing this morning.

I love onesies and use them almost all the time.  I can't stand it when she's wearing a shirt and it rides up all the time.  I also don't like the way it moves around when I pick her up and I feel bad when I end up touching her bare skin underneath--only because my hands are almost always really cold.

I can't imagine always putting a onesie underneath shirts.  I think it's just way too warm here, even in the winter.  I'll definitely be sad when she leaves the onesie stage.

  • I used to use lots of onesies, but the older DS gets, the fewer we have of them.  I don't mind them, but I definitely prefer shirts - like a PP mentioned, I love dressing him in "little man" clothes.  I don't mind onesies under overalls, but I don't love the way they look with pants.  Ironically, today I dressed him in a onesie/pants, and almost changed him out of it.  But it was a onesie he'd never worn before and is about to outgrow, so I felt like it needed to be worn at least once.  Silly, I know.
