I really want to make these for my little girl's nursery. The tutorial on Martha Stuart looked easy enough, but I wanted some advise from people who had actually made them. Did it turn out like you thought from the tutorial? I noticed some reviews saying that they had to add more tissue to make it full. I want to try and avoid a ton of trial and error. Any help or tips would be great.
Also, if you have them in your room, how do you clean them? I would think that they would attract dust. This is my only concern with them.
Thanks ladies!
Re: Has anyone made the tissue paper pom poms?
I've made MANY! we used them as decor at a friends shower. the thing i found is that you really do need rectangle papers, 20x30 works best (ebay). That turns into a 12ish diameter ball. I agree you need a lot, i used 20 peices each poof. You have to be careful of the folds, if you don't do it right, you end up with a hole at the binding point... I also found that when hanging, only the botom 2/3rd works, to i tende to fluff to one side more than the other.
the mom to be took some home for her nursery and found that they were dust collectors.. there was no real way to clean them other then to shake outside and that beat them down pretty quickly. Just an FYI.
I helped a friend make a TON for her DS's first birthday. We followed Martha's instructions and they turned out perfectly! We did use more tissue though.
You can buy tissue for CHEAP from www.nashvillewraps.com
You could take them outside once a week or so and shake them off to avoid dust build up.
