Do you have a trick to calm DC?

When DS was 3 weeks old my BF came up from Texas to visit for a couple of days.  She told me that she picked a song for each of her kids when they were born and would sing it to them to calm them and it still worked on here 3 year old.  I started singing You are my Sunshine to DS that weekend whenever he was fussy.  A couple nights ago he was crying and I started to sing it to him and he stopped immediately and started smiling.  It made me so happy that I started to cry.

Do you have a trick or a special way to calm your DC?

  • The Bear Went Over the Mountain. I had to make up a third verse because I was singing it so much and I needed some trick to make it longer!

  • The Hush Little song... sometimes I have to sing it for 10 minutes in the car. : /
  • It's so cool that babies have songs that calm them down!  At our house, it's "Itsy Bitsy Spider" - he can be fussy, crying, and if I start to sing that song, he'll start to smile.  So cute!
  • Itsy Bitsy Spider has always been our calm down/stop freaking out song.
  • Sesame Street song, ABC song, and 5 little monkeys are his favorites...sometimes are sung for entire car rides!
  • Itsy Bitsy Spider i would sing that to her since birth now whether she is fussy or just happy it always makes her smile..  Love the pic of your DC and doggie what a cute pose.. Boxers are great dogs w/kids!!
  • Wheels on the bus works wonders with DD
  • We do the same song!  After singing it zillions of times, I added another verse to it that I made up.  I sing it to DD in the morning with her bottle when she is all relaxed and cuddly and whenever I sing it during her fussy times, she definitely calms down.  I love it.

  • I take DD outside and she's instantly calm. She loves watching the leaves move in the wind, seeing people outside in their yards and the cars driving by the house. It's getting colder now though so that won't be as much of an option so we're hoping looking out the window will be enough.

  • Mary had a little lamb works for DD. Sometimes I have to sing it for 20 min. ugh..
  • Mama's Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird, or pretty much me singing anything. And if that doesn't work (though it usually does) I just stick a boob in his mouth. Problem solved. Wink
  • I sing Raindrops on Roses or say Ah, baby about a million times. Lately, Snow Patrol has been calming him down instantly!
