Trouble TTC

What kinda of question is..."when are you going to have kids?"

So I am quietly sitting at my desk working my butt off (for once) and a guy that works with MH and I and has known us for 10 yrs comes in out of the blue and asks me "so when are you going to have kids?"  WTH???  My smart a** answer to him was "maybe I can't have kids!"  I mean really???  Don't you think that after knowing MH and I for 10 yrs and I have not popped up preggo there might possibly be a reason why??  OMGosh!

Some ppl just don't have a filter or a brain!  I feel like I have to wear rubber boots to protect my feet from all the sh** that comes outta ppl's mouths!

  • A dumb one...I'm sorry you had to hear that hon, I hate having that question sprung on me.

My new answer is "Approximately 9 months after I get PG." Then if they have balls big enough to ask "So when will that be?" I'll delve further and say, "When one of MH sperm penetrates my egg and implants itself into my uterus." They usually stop after that;)

  • Sorry Pepper!  People just don't think sometimes.  I think the next time I get a dumb question like that I'm going to say, "When the voices in my head stop arguing and say it's okay"  I find crazy shuts people up faster sometimes.

This is going to be my answer from now on too. Technically, it is a viable answer to their question!

Sorry you had to deal with that. When the topic of kids comes up around me, I get nervous that someone will ask that. I always try to think of the nicest answer that doesn't cause me to start crying in front of them, although that would freak them out!

  • Oh pepper, I totally feel you on this one! I am so tired of answering that question (or trying to avoid it!!).

I love the rubber boot comment! I need a pair too!

  • Oh I hate that question.  Luckily I don't get that question too much anymore.  I think after blowing people off for this long they have finally stopped asking.  Thank goodness.

  • I hate that question.  I always say "When I feel like it"  I know it comes off as bitchy, but it's more of my way of saying mind your own business.  It's so funny, I have never asked anybody when they are going to have kids and now I am even more concience of when I hear people ask other people.  It's like no one else even understands the concept that maybe some people just can't have kids.

  • I'm sorry - what an insensitive comment!!  People just don't think!!

  • What an annoying question. Some people need to have it spelled out for them. Sorry you had to deal with that!

  • Im sorry u had to deal with stupid people Pepper! I usually look at them and say kinda nastily "this *** aint as easy as it looks!" because of the tone of my voice and the look on my face they usually can tell its a sore subject and dont usually go any further. Then they tell me it will happen and not to worry. Sigh

LOVE thisSmile I think I'm going to start using it.  Seriously though, people need to learn to use their filter.  Particularly my MIL & SIL.  I always figure people would assume that since DH & I are both in our 30's & have been married for 3 years, at this point we either don't want children or are having trouble getting pg, but that clearly does not stop people from asking.

  • I get this question a lot too, due to my age (34) and all my friends have kids.

However, the worst form of the question came from a lady at work who said "you've gained weight, are you pregnant?". I mean, seriously? I was just dumbfounded, and responded with a simple "no". But I gave her a dirty look too. I have gained weight, but not pregnancy type weight!

Holy crap!!!  I can't believe someone would say that!  Either half of that sentence would be bad enough on its own, never mind together.  I think I might've slapped her!
