I use blogger, and it's not bad, but I have seen nicer templates with wordpress, and another blog site that I unfortunately can't seem to think of the name of right now.
I don't have a lot of tips, because my own blog is weird. It's a TTC/knitting blog (in my siggy). Since I generally don't have a ton of news on the baby front, I just knit stuff and shove it in there in the hopes of keeping it somewhat interesting, LOL
You should ask Sulfababy. She has an awesome blog.
I've been thinking about doing this too & I don't even know where to start, so I'm glad someone asked! I was looking at blogspot, shabbyblogs, & livejournal. Do people usually have a theme of some sort (like I've seen blogs about cooking, fashion, etc.) or do you kind of just document your life like a diary? I think it would be fun, but I don't know if my life is interesting enough for anyway to want to read about it, lol.

I started a private one recently as just an outlet form my thoughts & emotions. I'm not sure if I'll ever let anyone read it but "may" let my LO see it later in life so that they know just how much we wanted them. Since I'm not doing anything fancy, I just created a Google Site and use that.

I use Blogger for my TTC blog and found it super, super easy to set up. Most girls that I've seen on the Bump who blog also use Blogger, so when you sign up for an account it will be easier to comment on theirs! The templates are cute and it's easily customizable. There's also a built-in doo-hicky to follow other blogs within Blogger.
I use Wordpress for my professional website. It is *highly* customizable. You can make it look however you want, but it's a lot of work to do it. The default stuff is not too bad though.
I use blogger for my personal/diary type one and I use wordpress for my food blog. Like Sulfa said, blogger is easy peasy and WP, I think, is better for more experienced types. I still struggle with WP sometimes.

I have three blogs (cooking, family, TTC--all linked in my siggy) and use blogger. I had a wordpress blog years ago, but found it more difficult to use than blogger. But, everybody has a preference on that. Blogger has gotten better templates than when I first started using it and I get fun backgrounds and headers from other websites.
To me there are two kinds of blogs that I will read. One is a blog with a theme or purpose--a cooking blog, a TTC blog, some other type of hobby. The other is an all-purpose. The difference is that a theme blog doesn't have to be updated as often, but I will still read it when it is because I am interested in a subject. A catch-all blog needs to be updated often and needs to really be interesting.
Of course, that is if you are really looking for readers. If you are looking for a blog just for you, then you can do whatever you want.

I have a blog- I use blogger and have never had any issues. I think its much more simple to use than wordpress. It's pretty self explanitory, but google has some awesome blogging advice if you need any
Ditto on all of this I tried wordpress and then switched to blogger. GL to you!!
I just want to add - I use blogger (link in siggy) for my food blog. But I use Windows live writer to draft and publish all of my posts - so much nicer to use when actually writing and putting photos in. (FYI- you just upload your blogger account to live writer to do this)
have fun!

I've been using blogger for almost three years. Blogging is one of my favorite hobbies. I have an IF blog (link in siggy) that I started last year when we started with infertility treatment and I have another blog that I use for daily life stuff. I don't have it linked in my siggy because I am trying to stay somewhat anonymous on this board but if you want the link to check it out, PM me.
Some people start blogs and write one post a month or forget about it all together. I find writing my thoughts and expressing myself to be somewhat theraputic so I blog almost everyday. I don't have high expectations for comments and I don't expect to be some blogging celebrity but it is just a good way to journal and be expressive!
I blog (Some Womb Thoughts in my siggy). And I use blogger.com. One of the reasons I like it so much is that alot of the ladies use it, so it's nice to have all my updates on my wall when I open it. So I can check in on everyone at once. You can get free wallpaper designs through several sites. I like Cutest Blog on the Block. It has a ton. But there are others as well. It's nice to hear about everyone and to have a voice yourself. Best of luck

I used to have a food blog on blogger, but when my friend and I started a blog together (in my siggy) that is all about family, TTC, food, exercise, and other real-life interests, we went with wordpress. i have to say i greatly prefer wordpress, personally. i think the blog layouts are easier to set up and make it look much more professional than i was ever able to do on blogger. but i am not the most tech savvy person!
i think that blogging is such a personal thing, the best advice i can give you is to blog for yourself, not for other people. as your personality shows through what you write, readers will start to come to you. so many bloggers seem obsessed with increasing traffic to the point of diminishing the quality of their blog. we are trying not to do that with ours, but of course the more readers we have, the merrier! good luck.
I use blogger and find it simple to use. I'm still learning on it. I don't have it set to private so you can take a look if you want.
