Weighted Hula Hoops

I've been thinking about getting a weighted hula hoop to use a couple times a week in addition to my regular gym routine. It seems like it would be fun and I've read that they are good at toning up the abs. Does anyone have any experience with these? Is it worth the purchase or just sort of gimmicky?

  • I have one and I use it every once in awhile to change things up.  I have heard that they are really good for toning the abs, but I have never used it regularly enough to comment on that.

    Sometimes I am a little sore after using it from the weight rotating around my sides, lower back, etc. 

    If I had to make the decision again, I'd probably pass on it or just buy a traditional hula hoop.  It takes more energy to keep a lighter one up than a weighted one, so the lighter one is actually a better workout.
