A neighbor of mine offered to watch our baby one day a week for 8 hours. She does not have a daycare, just two little boys of her own. I'm wondering how much would be an appropriate rate to pay her per day. We're getting together this weekend and I would like to have some numbers to go off of. Some have suggested I pay her 1/5 of the cost of weekly in-home day care but I'm unsure of the cost in our aread. Any advice would be great, thanks!
Re: ? regarding child care rates in Woodbury
I disagree a bit with this. I think in-home infant in Woodbury is higher than 150/week.
Also, if she is just watching your child (vs several other families) I think it is more of a nanny relationship than an in-home provider relationship. I would establish a fair 'nanny wage' and then discount it for the fact that she is watching in her home with her own kids present.
I would plan on paying $50 at a minimum. (FWIW, I am in a center, but infant care one day a week is over $100 just for that day)
I would start out by insisting that she gives you a 'ball park' figure and then negotiate from there. The last thing you want is the person caring for your child feeling cheated by their wage. If she gives you her 'ball park' range then you will know if you guys are on the same page or not.
Personally, $30/day wouldn't be worth my time and hassle to watch someone else's baby all day.
