Introducing sippy cup

Does anyone have any suggestions for introducing the sippy cup? Little man is almost 9 months old. I started trying to give it to him 3 weeks ago, but he just continues to chew on the spout. When I put it in a bottle, he drinks it no problem. He just will not take it from the cup. Have tried with the Avent Magic cup and Gerber Graduate cup.

  • try a million different cups.

My DD didn't drink from a sippy until 14 months (and then very quickly wanted to drink from an open cup after that).  The one I found that worked was one with just a spout (First Years makes one) and no valve.  I also had to cut down her nursing a little (this was after a year) to make her more thirsty.

  • DD hasn't taken a bottle since 2 months, she would just chew on that and also on the sippy cup.  I just started holding it for her after meals (started at 6 months) to give her time to practice and let her play with it while I cleaned up.  After a couple of weeks of that she will now drink out of the sippy cup by herself.
  • We use the Munchkin brand it has a soft spout similar to a bottle.  DD chewed on it for the longest time and one day I put breastmilk in, she realized it and she has been using ever since then.  I say just keep giving it to him and eventually he will get it.

  • We have tried a few as well, at this point I just view it as practice- he can bang it around, chew on it and at times I will put it up to his mouth to practice sucking...he just learned to take the bottle by himself with some juice in it (without someone holding it for him)...I like Nuk brand level I sippy BTW....its lightweight and LO seems to get the most from the spout with not too much effort.
