I found out about my GD 3 weeks ago. Other than the days of trying to figure out what I could and couldn't eat, my numbers have been fine. TONIGHT was a different story though, and I don't get it!!!!!!
I had my appt. today where they look at my #'s and stuff. They told me to watch what I eat a little more and exercise a little more, etc. I went home and ate 1/2 cup tomato soup with some goldfish crackers. 2 hours later, my number was 156! WTF???? I have no explanation for it and I'm so upset by it too. Why would that meal make my number so high? I had gone 6 days straight with all of my numbers below 120. ![]()

Re: AW from GD moms
Did you wash and dry your hands before you tested? I know if I don't dry them well, or just used lotion or a scented sanitizer, it totally messes up my numbers.
Also, sometimes I get a high reading if I don't have enough blood on the test strip.
Did you try testing again right afterwards?

Yea, you can try again, but don't worry if it's only 1 high number! I know my dr looks more for patterns of high numbers, not just one "off" number.

I am constantly complaining about stuff that like to the dietician and diabetic nurse at the clinic! Anything and everything can affect your BS numbers, how you slept the previous night, how your fasting, or breakfast numbers were, how much activity you've done that day (even just shopping, doing a lot of walking, etc). There is no rhyme or reason to why your sugars can be super low one day and then sky high the next unfortunately.
I always tell the dietician that it drives me crazy when I could eat the exact same thing two days in a row. The first day my sugars could be fine, then the next they're super high. It's not fair.
I will say that I have found that any sort of scented soap will elevate my BS numbers huge though. I had a super high reading last night after dinner, and the only thing that was wonky was I had washed my hands just before with a Bath and Body Works soap in our guest bath. I'm never doing that again.

I always use an alcohol wipe on my finger 9 out of 10 times before I take my sugar just because the same exact thing has happened to me. I got a package of 100 for $2 so they're totally worth it!
