I've noticed on my last 2 runs that I feel great during them but after I feel a tightness or pulling in my uterus area. I wouldn't call it crampy but more feels tight if I try to stand up really straight or do a little back bend. It starts immediately after finishing my run and everything feels back to normal within less than an hour. I don't get it after other exercising, just running. I'm wondering if its some kind of ligament thing since you naturally hold your abs tight while running.
Anyone else notice this after a run? Thoughts??
Re: Any runners still running?
I haven't asked my doc because it just happened this week. I also hadn't run in over a week due to Christmas so maybe its just my body getting back in the swing of things. I also emailed one of my marathon friends who has 2 kids so if she has anything to say, I'll post it here too.
I'm not worried about it because it feels better so quickly but its just an odd feeling.
This. Well, technically I ran up until 6 weeks, but I started cramping quite a bit. Now that I think about it, it might've just been RLP. I got too paranoid to start it back up though, but now I wish I hadn't stopped. I miss it more than wine too. Well...maybe tied with wine.
Just like I have a few sips of wine here and there, sometimes I run across the parking lot at work on the way to my car, just to have a "taste" of running.
I ran a 4 miler the week after I found out, but took it easy and was not pleased with my time. I'm too competitive to 'take it easy' when I run. Also, it is really cold and I don't have anywhere to run indoors. My Dr gave the go-ahead for running but I think it will just be brisk Spring walks in the park for me.
I ran a 1/2 at 6 weeks and did better than I expected, and then continued to minimally train for another. I ended up running 6.5 miles (slowly) at 13 weeks and then had to walk the rest of the way - my back started hurting really badly.
I've had to stick to a treadmill lately, but I've been mostly walking. Running makes me have to pee like every 1/2 mile, and if I stick it out for more than a mile or two, my back starts hurting again. I figure if I take it easy on the running now, I won't get injured and I'll be able to get back into it faster once the baby is born.
I have been walking on an incline and using the elliptical regularly to stay in shape - but it is depressing when I see all those other people pounding it out ont he treadmill...
Same for me. It just doesn't feel right. The only cardio I'm doing now in speed walking at an incline. I'm also lifting weights, but how that my posture is changing a can't do many leg exercises.
Sadly, I haven't run since I found out I was pregnant back in September. Way too paranoid. I used to run 40+ miles a week so it was a huge deal that I stopped. It was my outlet, my sanity. I can't wait to lace up my shoes in June. I was accepted into the NYC marathon in November of 2011, but I think that is way too early of a marathon. I won't be in good shape at all! I might try for a spring marathon in 2012.
Thanks for your replies!
I plan to continue running for as long as I can during my pregnancy and as long as the tightness I'm feeling continues to go away quickly, I'm not going to worry about it and the baby is growing perfectly. Like I said, I feel great while running so I want to keep it up.
I have a lot of marathoning friends who have had kids and ran through their pregnancies so its a really good source for me when I have questions and when I start to go insane about my new slow as molases pace or low mileage. Its nice to have people that understand since I'm so used to pushing my body for my runs.
As for when the post-pregnancy come back race will be for me, I'm not completely ruling out a fall marathon but that will depend on how long I can continue running now and how I recover after delivery. I most likely wouldn't race it as my current PR is ~2:30 min/mile faster than I'm running now...yikes!!
I ran a half 6 weeks preggo (but didn't know), and a 10k around 10 weeks (knowingly). I found it hard to really give it my all.
I was running up til 12 weeks, but I feel pain in my lower back, and in my hips like WHOA. I also feel like the baby is bouncing on my bladder the entire time. I gave it another go last week but only managed a mile before my back was like nuh-uh.
I have a half in May, but with my real lack of training interest and that I'll be eight freaking months pregnant, I doubt I'll be doing it.

I ran 10 miles this morning...so yes, I'm still running
Dr's OK if I can easily talk and not feeling any cramping/contractions - so far, so good. Due to my PTL history, I may be told to stop after 20+ weeks - I had a baseline measurement of my cervix taken at 13 weeks and I'll have it measured again at my 20 week u/s...I'm really hoping there's no change, I'd like to run until I decide I can't or it doesn't feel good. W/ DS I ran until 34 weeks - my speed and mileage were much slower/shorter, but still got 5-8 milers in.
GL! I'll be curious to learn what your friends say regarding your pulling, please post the replies.
I agree about getting cramps when I don't drink enough. Also maybe try a slower pace and see if that helps.
