They do have great food! However, they are a very very busy hospital, so if you are comfortable with that, go for it, they do well. They can deliver 30 babies a day there. I personally prefer Oakwood Southshore in Trenton, MI because it's quiet, and there is a more personal service. Sometimes they only do 1-2 births a day. Same great food too!
My DD was born there and they do have fantastic food. I did not have a great experience there though. Some highlights:
- I ended up with a c-section that was not medically necessary. - I had horrible back labor and even though everyone knew I was in tremendous pain, no one even tried to fix my epidural or offered to give me a bolas. - Even though I went to a large OB/GYN practice, I only saw residents until just before my c-section. - One of the residents in particular had horrible bedside manner. - The rooms aren't that nice and the L/D rooms are separate from the recovery room. - DD was given formula without my consent right after she was born because she was literally a couple grams over some threshold. - DD and I were separated for a couple hours right after she was born. - Even though I didn't want anyone other than DH to see me right after the C-Section, my mom and grandparents were allowed into my recovery room as soon as my C-Section was over. - The lactation consultant and day nurses were great, but the night nurses were pretty lousy and couldn't help me BF when my milk came in.
In my opinion, there are much better hospitals around. My DS was born at HFWB via a VBAC and that was an amazing experience. Oh, HFWB has pretty fabulous food too
I did not deliver at Oakwood Dearborn but I had both of my children at Oakwood Annapolis. My SIL had 3 of her children at Oakwood Southshore. Both have fabulous rooms that serve as your l&d room and your recovery. My experience the 2nd time was amazing, the first time not so much. If we had a third I would still return since I spoke with my OBGYN during my second pregnancy about the things I wasn't happy with and she was amazing on correcting them (they didn't involve her.) Umm what else... oh, I agree w/the other posters, the Oakwood food is great! Southshore and Annapolis are definitely more quiet than Main. I was present at my niece's birth at Southshore and everything went smoothly. Let me know if you have any more questions!
