Postpartum Depression

Morbid Dreams

Hi,

I don't think I have PPD, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask this. Since I had J, I've been having really morbid dreams. In one, my father fell off a building and I witnessed it. In another, my late brother was still alive but my mother was no longer around to take care of him (He had severe autism/cognitive delay) so I was trying to help my dad. Last night I dreamt that my younger brother was killed road racing (which he does NOT do) and I was holding my mom while she cried and I was thinking that both of her boys were gone.

These dreams always result in me waking up out of breath, heart racing, cold sweat, etc.

I will admit that I am nervous of something happening to J. I creep in to check on him if the monitor is quiet for too long, to make sure he's still breathing.

Could this be a symptom of an anxiety issue, even though I feel fine during the day?

TIA

Re: Morbid Dreams

  • Nah, not an anxiety issue if you're fine during the day.  Its just that when you dream your fear of losing J is manifesting itself into dreams of losing people close to you.  As he gets older and you're not as nervous about his well-being these dreams will eventually go away.  Not that you won't always worry about him!  My LO is 6 months old and though I still worry, I'm no where near as terrified as I used to be.
