I know I sound dramatic, but when did my little girl get so big?
We decided to put her in preschool for a few reasons. One is because my mom, who babysits her, travels quite a bit. And as much as we love my mom for helping us out, her leaving out of town on a whim leaves us in a bind from time to time. And also, she so needs the interaction and to learn how to socialize with kids her age. She is such a smart girl, I can't imagine all of the things she will learn while she's there.
With all of that said, I'm still nervous about sending her with a bunch of strangers. We took a tour last week, I researched the facility's inspection record online, is there anything you guys can think of that I need to ask? I'm going Friday to officially register her. Wish us luck!
Re: Whaaaa, part-time preschool begins next week!
Aww! I think it's a good idea though
We're actually thinking about putting B in daycare once a week just for the social interaction. Hope ps goes well next week!
Btw, I love your new siggy! She's always so freaking cute! That shirt is adorable too--it's like she has a camera like her mommy
(Oh yeah, and TB is slow and I'm getting errors every other post too...)
Do they do naps? If so there are things she might need for that (a special bear or blankie that she likes for home) I taught 3 yr olds and we did naps. Most kids her age do better than their parents think they will do
Something from home that's special to her might be nice though. Will she be eating lunch there? What about picking out a special backpack or lunch bag to get her excited too? Just a thought...
On another note, I can't believe she's so big either! She's grown so quickly. I can't believe how quickly the time goes by!
Bella LOVES daycare and while I really love spending time with her, we took her last week one day (she hasn't been in a couple of weeks bc DH isn't working) and she had a blast! She was SO happy and loved it! She loves the social interaction and I feel like kids can learn so much from being around other kids.
Have you checked into other activities too like library story time or a kids museum? Those are good things to get your child around other kids. We've been exploring a bunch of stuff in our area to find activities for Bella to enjoy AND get some social interaction with other kids too.

awwww i can't believe she's already old enough for preschool!! i love your new siggy pic too
that shirt is adorable, what does she think of it?
i think sarah already gave you some great suggestions! the only other thing i'd ask about is what precautions they take to minimize the spread of colds and other illnesses? i know it's inevitable for them to get sick when they are around other kids but some places are definitely more strict/cautious about that sort of thing than others....

Aw, big hugs and congrats on the milestone! I cannot believe Libby will be one in a few weeks and feel the same way..."where's my baby!?" It goes SO fast! But U am sure C will LOVE preschool and have all sorts of new things to share with you! Go with your gut...if the place or people every feel icky to you, trust yourself. And the best part is that she's verbal and can tell you if there are problems. That's a HUGE bonus to waiting until they're a little older to start daycare/preschool. FWIW, my mom is our DCP and it's an issue sometimes with her travels...for example, she's been in CA since the 30th and comes home on Sunday. Then, in three weeks she'll be headed back to the west coast for two weeks...so I am scrambling to line up DC and will probably also have to take time off and/or try to work from home.

wow, how fun for her, but wow, time flies! I'm sure she will love it. I love that Jack plays so well with other children and I love the art projects he brings home (mostly just hand and footprint stuff right now).
As for questions to ask - I can't really think of any, for me it was more important to see them interact with children and talk to other parents that take their children to our daycare center. I can't do it very often but other moms drop by all the time to breastfeed and always have positive things to say so that put my mind at ease.
Well she is all signed up and ready to attend beginning tomorrow.
We met again with her teacher this past Friday and got to hang around for a few minutes. Cassie seemed shy but I have a feeling she'll warm up to the other kids in no time. She gets to pack a small blankie and pillow for naptime, and she even gets to take Lollie with her
I'm so excited because there is so much for her to do. They even go on field trips once a month. Her classroom can't get off of the bus yet (not until they turn 3 years old) but they go for a ride on the bus and sing along to the "Wheels on the Bus." Is that not cute or what?
Jaime, to minimize illnesses and such, they have this giant sanitizer, (imagine a commercial grade freezer) called the ZONO, that they use to sanitize just about everything. They even have sinks in each classroom for the kids to wash their hands.
And last but not least, I signed up for online viewing for the first month so I get to check in on her whenever I want from work
Thanks again for the advice and words of encouragement everyone!
