Parenting after 35

Oh please don't tell me I have to go up another diaper size...

For the past two nights Thomas has been leaking through his night time huggies diapers...to the point where I have to do a full change of clothes in the middle of the night; and this wakes him up.  He's currently in size 5 - it doesn't look too small but its been leaking when he sleeps on his tummy.  Should I go up a size?

  • Or it's too big???

Aaron isn't even in a size 5 yet.  He's using Huggies Overnights in size 4.  Most nights he doesn't pee out--though he does occasionally.  I found the Pampers Extra Protection diapers to run smaller, however.

How much does T weigh now?  Aaron is @ 27 lb at almost 17 months.

I don't think its too big.  He's 23lbs and has been wearing 5's the last couple months.  Maybe I've been pulling the backside higher than the front?  I just bought three boxes of 5's so hopefully I dont' have to buy bigger.

  • We usually moved up a size - but you could try another brand too? I think my boys were in size 5 when they were closer to 2 yrs old - about the time they hit the 23/24 lb mark ; ) & then I would refuse to go any higher & it was time for potty training.

I just can't believe my 15 month old is still in size 3 diapers!

  • DS had this problem and I switched to the overnight and problem solved.  Doesn't sound as if you are that lucky. I also make sure his penis is pointed down. I'd probably go up to a 6 in overnights and that should keep him dry at least.  As he gets older, you can start to limit his fluid intake right before bed.

  • We have DD up a size in night-time diapers and it seems to do the trick.  And for us, that means size 5 diapers.  Ellie is tall but barely 22 lbs, so that gives you an idea size wise.  GL - that is no fun!
  • Wow... size 5s already??  That seems  big as it is, considering his weight.  Charlie is somewhere between 21-23 pounds and his Size 3 Pampers rarely leak ever.. even at night.  Maybe Huggies are different, tho.   The Pampers box says they're good for up to 28 pounds but I'll probably start thinking about 4s soon.

  • Sarah is 23 pounds at 17 months and in size 3 diapers for the day, size 4 overnight diapers for the night. She has never peed through anything and she sleeps 12-13 hours at night. I can't imagine size 4 would be too small for T if he is the same weight as Sarah.

Unfortunately, I think its easier for boys to leak through their diapers.  He wears size 4 (Target brand) diapers during the day but at night size 5 huggies.  I compared the both brands and there was no difference in the size between 4 and 5.

  • When I nursed overnight I doubled up Simon's diapers (size 4 on top of size 3).  Now he wears the same size day and night (4) and the only time he leaked was when I tried Huggies.  Pampers has always been a better fit for him.  Personally I think Huggies is made more for girls because it seems like Huggies doesn't really fit well over his package, there just seems to be more room in the front with the Pampers.
