Officially moving on to IVF

I knew this was the direction we were moving towards after we got the genetic results on our daughter, but I just wasn't ready. I have been doing a ton of research on PGD (which was suggested to us in October). Through my research I learned that PGD only looks at a few chromosomes and allows them to see specific genetic depletions and takes 2-3 months to develop probes. I also learned about CGH/PGS and found out that they look at ALL the chromosomes and there is NO wait time. I spoke to a genetic counselor over the phone about our specific genetic issue and determined that PGD is the only way to detect the issue.

So unfortunately we have no choice but to wait. The lab is being given the lab report on our baby, and on my DNA. We should get a call to give blood soon and once that happens the 2-3 month wait starts. We are going to elect to do both PGD and PGS so that we have the highest chance of conceiving a healthy take home baby.

Our RE's office is not doing an April IVF cycle (I guess that is when they all take vacations?) so if the probes are ready we will do our cycle in March and if not, we will have to wait till May. Our LO's EDD was April 19th and I had really hoped that I would be out of the first trimester or at least past 9 weeks with our 2nd pregnancy by the EDD...that ship has now sailed.

Thank you! Me too! Our RE knows the doctor that owns that owns the lab, and he is going to call him directly and ask if there is any way to speed up the process. FX!

Good luck with IVF! I know it is a hard choice to decide to pursue treatment but FX that this gives you a take home baby on your first try! My sister did PGD with her ivf cycle after three recurrent losses. Of her fertilized embryos, only 35% were healthy (as determined by the PGD). Their embryologist said that without the PGD, they would have implanted 2 embryos that appeared "perfect" but, in reality had significant chromosome abnormalities. And she ended up with two healthy babies that are now 4 years old!
