Gift for DH at birth?

I'd like to get my husband a gift for when the baby is born.  Has anyone else thought of that?  I'm really drawing a blank when it comes to ideas.  I'm open to spending various amounts...not to exceed $200, but it doesn't have to be that big, either.  Any suggstions?  Thanks, ladies!  :)

I thought he's the one that owes me jewelry for this? Stick out tongue

LOL, I second that!  It's the gift that keeps on giving...

  • My DH is just starting to build an antique truck.  I'm planning on getting him a large tool chest for that.  I figured he'll be spending more time at home next summer  so he'll need to be more organized to tear into his project.

a friend of mine bought her DH am X Box and a few games

I've also heard of gift cards to places he likes to eat because we're not going to want to cook for a few weeks, at least he will get to eat his favorites and will feel a little pampered.

  • A reverse push present?  That's a new one.

While it's a sweet thought I would wait to get him something until Father's Day.  The baby will be enough.

Being in pain and pushing a baby out is a gift in itself LOL  I do however like the restaurant gift card idea...

  • Um, DH gets a gift for being there with you while you push? Interesting. For the record, I'm not a fan of push gifts either. IMO the baby is enough of a gift for both me and DH and neither one of us needs an extra gift.

  • Hahaha I like tokenhoser's response--I'm getting him a baby.  Very true.

I was kinda thinking that I would like to get my hubs something also.  I'm really happy he's making me a mommy, ya know?  But I don't have any idea what to get...

  • I am planning on getting my DH a present. We are big yankee fans, so I want to get him and Baby matching jerseys.

I think it is a nice idea to get him a present that will always remind him of the birth of our baby. I know many people wil say that the baby should be enough and I'm sure it would be, but I would also like to give a gift. I also gave him a gift and a card on our wedding day.

Sorry, but that is a terrible idea!!  If her husband is like mine he wants to rip the games open and play nonstop until he beats them.  Yeah, NOT happening when we have a newborn to take care of!

This. Since father's day is only a couple weeks after our due date I will wait to get him a gift on that day. The baby will be gift enough at birth.

    ^This exactly!^

Ive never heard of buying DH a gift, I think that's silly. Im going to need whatever money Id be spending on him for our new baby.

  • My H has been wanting a specific watch since before our wedding. I pretty much wrote it off as he was never getting it, but I am going to surprise him as a baby gift and fathers day gift. Since I wont be much for shopping at that point or will have a newborn with me, I think this is a great idea. The watch is about 500 bucks and I have a gift certificate for 150 so its just a very large gift.

This.  I'm a little jealous DH gets his first Father's Day within weeks/days!

  • I thought I edited my previous post with a bunch of suggestions, but guess it didn't go through...

As for suggestions, this is what I'm considering for Father's day:

Love the matching jerseys idea of a PP

Watch with engraving on underside commemorating birth

Daddy diaper bag or carrier if we don't get one

Daddy&Me picture frame or digital picture frame for work

  • I agree with pps - a baby is gift enough (it comes with bonus labor pain). I'll get him something for father's day. As far as the x-box and games - I agree - what a terrible idea. "Here DH - congrats - you're a dad! Now go veg out in front of the TV for hours and play these games while I deal with sleep deprivation and diapers - no really - I don't need your help - enjoy!"

  • DH is getting my a "push present"... I might get him a "thanks for getting me KU" present :)
  • DH will be getting a baby and a wife who is no longer pregnant, in pain, and crabby.  I will get him something for Father's Day, but I haven't thought about what that will be yet.  I don't expect DH to get me a "push present" either, although I will be getting a ring sometime around May.  It is a ring we have taught about since before we got married, and since we are having our first child in May and celebrating our 5th anniversary in June, the timing seemed right to get the ring this spring.  I would be happy if he just considers the ring as a Mother's Day gift as well and doesn't feel the need to buy something else.

  • I will get DH something for Father's Day (haven't thought that far ahead yet), but all he gets is a baby for the birth. I think the baby will be plenty of gift for both of us.

  • There's nothing wrong with getting your DH a gift to commemorate the birth.  Seeing as how heidibast has already decided to do so, and just needs suggestions, I'll see if I can't contribute.

If I was getting a gift for the birth... what would I want... hmm...

Father's Day, Birthday, and Christmas are plenty of times to get stuff that I would want personally (i.e. tools, electronics, etc.).  I just got an angle grinder for Christmas, but I don't think I'd want more things for my personal interests alongside the event of my child's birth.

I think I would really like something more as a memento, something special that has meaning specifically for the birth.  For mementos, I like simple things.  I get DW charms for her bracelets, or small pretties to wear on some of her necklace chains.  But jewelery probably wouldn't work here.

I think, in all sincerity, a picture of me holding my child in a nice frame would be perfect.  See if you can get someone to snap a decent picture of your DH when he first gets to hold his child.  Take it to a professional place to get it edited and printed (an 8x10 is perfect).  Then take it to a good frame shop and get it put into a nice frame for his desk or to mount on his wall.

     That's what I would like :)

  • Thank you for all of the great suggestions. I absolute love the picture idea, the matching jersey idea, and the watch with engraving!  Now, I'll just have to decide which to go with at birth and which to go with for Father's Day.  I know a gift is not necessary (and the baby will truly be the best gift ever), but it's a special day for my husband too, and I want to get him a special gift to recognize all he has done for me during the pregnancy.  He has always been great about getting me little gifts to recognize special events...this will probably be the most special of them all for him so far!    :)  Thanks, again!

  • I might buy mine a watch.

I'm getting a push present but I hadn't thought of getting him something, what a nice idea!
