Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Advice Please!!!

No flames please?!??!

My little man is 6 months on Saturday.  We started out co-sleeping, but my husband was not very aware during the night so I moved baby to the swing where he sleeps through the night!  Well.... he is getting a bit big for the swing.  I want to move him to the crib but he HATES LAYING DOWN FLAT!  He is a kicker and will kick until he wakes up.  In the swing he can't do this, seeing as he is all nice and cuddled.  I have thought about putting a rolled up towel or something underneath the crib sheet to prop his legs up... To be clear, the swing doesn't even have to be on anymore!  Actually, it hasn't been on in at least a month.  He is in his room as well.  PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE!  We have tried the crib a few times and it was horrifying!  We never speak of it in our house!  HELP!

Re: Advice Please!!!

  • we put LO's bouncer in her crib and let her sleep in there for a while until she got used to being in the crib. Now she sleeps just fine flat on her mattress, but we do swaddle her to get her to go to sleep without startling herself awake. If you're not swaddling your LO I'd suggest giving that a try.

I was going to suggest swaddling, too.

  • I would swaddle and give it time.  Maybe start him off by napping in the crib or on a flat surface during the day?

  • Have you tried putting blankets under the mattress to elevate it? If that works, then you can gradually reduce them until he is flat. What the PP's suggested is also sound advice.

  • When we moved LO to his crib I started with naps.  I was much more awake and able to handle him waking up 500 times.  I started with his best nap (morning nap) and then moved him in there for all 3 naps, before moving him in there for the night.  By the time we got to the night time part, we had no issues.

We also put a flat pillow under the mattress to elevate it.
