Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Told to see a pediatric neurologist.

Back ground: When DS was 4 months old, I pointed out to pedi that he let his head fall to one side when he was relaxed. He has great range of motion, can turn his head just fine both ways, but let's it fall towards his left shoulder. When you take his arms and pull him from a laying position, he usually lets his head lag behind.

I've taken him to 2 physical therapists, and asked a chiropractor that I completely trust. My chiropractor called me yesterday and said it would be a good idea to see a pediatric neurologist. I'm so scared that there is something worse wrong with him. All 3 doctors I've seen so far say it's not torticollis. All of them say low muscle tone. I've been doing physical therapy with him for months trying to strengthen his neck, and it doesn't seem to be helping.

Does anyone have  a similar situation? I need hope that nothing is wrong with him.

Re: Told to see a pediatric neurologist.

  • We took DD to a pedi. neuro. at 2 weeks old because of a cephalohematoma. They will probably send you for an MRI or a CAT scan to check inside his head. I would definitely go and see what they say.

My situation is not similar to yours but I wish you the best and hope that it turns out to be nothing.

  • DS had to have an u/s for his monster nugget. While it's scary seeing them go through it, there is a far greater chance that everything is fine. T&P just the same. Please KUP!!

  • My son had something like this when he was around 8 monhts.  HIs head was ALWAYS tilted to the right.  We had an x-ray and nothing was wrong and we were also told to go to a pediatric Neur.  We ended up cancelling the appnt.  because all of a sudden it just went away.  No idea why or what it was.  Hopefully this will be the case for your child as well.  Good luck.

Was it just around 8 months that he tilted his head? That's strange that it disappeared so quick...but good that it did! :)

Thanks ladies for the support. I was crying after I talked to the chiropractor about it yesterday. DH doesn't think anything at all is wrong. DS is on track with milestones, so I don't think it's anything super serious. We're going to see the neurologist and pray that he's okay.

  • My daughter goes to see a pedi neurologist. She's only been once but must now see her every three months. If you do decide to go, your first appoint will most likely be a developmental assessment and a neurological exam. Our appointment lasted almost two hours. Good luck with everything.
