Not starting 2 week appts until 36 weeks

Am I the only one?  It seems like everyone on here is talking about already starting their 2 week appointments.  I just went in at 32 weeks, go back at 36, 38, and then weekly from there.  Is this strange?  I don't feel like I NEED to be going any more often than that, but it concerns me that everyone else is doing it differently..

Re: Not starting 2 week appts until 36 weeks

  • I'm starting mine at 34....I think.  At 29 weeks he wanted me back in 3, so Friday puts me at 32 weeks, and then he mentioned seeing me every 2.  Trust me...I'd rather put it off a little bit more.  It's an all day event in that office.  I need to learn to knit or something.

  • I started mine this week I suppose - I had one at 26 weeks (which technically was my 24 week appointment, I think) and then I just had one yesterday.  I go back in 2 weeks.  As of 36 weeks, I believe I am going weekly.  At the beginning of my pg, I asked my OB about having a midwife instead, but he said I was too high risk due to previous LEEP surgery; maybe that's why mine are more frequent?!

  • I saw my doc last week, and he said he didn't want to see me for 4 weeks. Everything is going well so he said it wasn't worth taking time from work - unless, of course, something is wrong. I thought my doc was crazy too, so I wouldn't worry.
  • I had my appointment Monday at 28 weeks, and from now on they will be every 2 weeks.  I kind of wish they weren't because I am cheap and don't want to pay that co-pay more often, haha.

  • I WISH! I've gone both pregnancies to 40 weeks so blah to just going in all the time. 3rd trimester they do every 2 weeks and the last month every week around here which is overkill but I guess its fine.
  • It seems weird to me since I start my weekly appointments at 36 weeks...

  • I'm a Navy wife, and I think it has something to do with Tricare. All of the other military wives I know started going in every two weeks after 36 weeks, and it's the standard policy at my midwives practice on base here. I'm actually a bit relieved because it's a pain getting time off work just to have myself weighed and measured. ;)

I was kinda assuming it had something to do with Tricare.  I really am not too worried about it and I know I can go in if something comes up.  Just an interesting situation I guess and it seems that no civilian docs do it this way.  Oh well lol.

  • when I mentioned my biweeklys to a coworker/friend who had a child through the same practice 4 years ago looked at me funny and asked why. I just assumed it was normal to start biweeklys at 30 then weekly at 36

  • Yes This. I start my weekly at 37 weeks.
  • Mine started at 28 weeks, and weekly starts at 36. It's kind of a pain for me since I have to drive 30 miles each way to the doctor, but ohhhh well. I don't mind it too much - I get to hear Baby Girl's heartbeat every time, and my doctor is so chatty and informative, that it's always nice to hear what to expect and what the next appointment will entail, etc.

  • Nope, not the only one! I start seeing my doc every 2 weeks starting at 36 weeks, too. I had been seeing them every 4 weeks, then every 3. I still have one more "every 3" week appointment before I start every 2 weeks and eventually every week!

  • It doesn't seem like you should worry about it.  I think all doctors are different, and most of them would probably see you more if you were having problems.  Hooray for you if you and baby are healthy enough that you doctor feels good not seeing you that often.

If you still feel uncomfortable, you could ask your doc why he does it this way!

I have Tricare Prime as well and I'm on the same schedule.  I definitely think it's a military thing.
