Question - Donor eggs

Hi. :)  I post here and there, but haven't in a while. I just finished my third failed IUI (last one was with injects) and need to figure out what we'll do next. My FSH is high and DH's 'boys' are great. So, I was thinking about asking my RE to let us do IVF, but the chances will be so low with my eggs. BUT, I'm not sure about egg donor IVF. I don't know if I want to do it. Has anyone considered it? Is the cost a LOT higher than doing IVF with your own eggs?

Thanks for any info!

Re: Question - Donor eggs

  • Page EPPHD over on success after IF - Elizabeth used donor eggs after 3 failed IVFs with her own eggs. Her son Sam is adorable and about to turn 1. I follow her blog, which talked a lot about her struggles and ultimate success, and she was very thoughtful to talk about her emotional struggle with it all, as well as financial. But you need email access to her blog so you may want to ask her for that too. You can tell her you know me if she needs to validate that you are a sane person! Smile

  • Hi! I hope you don't mind me butting in. I also have high FSH and you can see from my siggy my 2 failed IVF's. Using DE is a choice that requires a lot of consideration and even some mourning. We knew when we first got my cd3 results back that DE may be an option for us, so it was always in the back of my mind. I think that is what mae our decision to go with DE after the 2nd IVF easy to make. I didn't know exactly how I would feel if I got pg, but make no mistake these boys are all mine! I barely ever think about the donor except at the dr when they ask me questions. As for the cost, yes it is more expensive than a reg IVF cycle...in our case about 10K more. But many clinics do shared risk cycles to bring the cost down. Feel free to page me on SAIF if you have any questions! GL to you!

  • I am doing DE..however, I don't have a high FSH but have had two canceled IVF's (see below, I think it is in my siggy)...We were given 5% chance with my eggs and 60% chance with DE..we are in a shared risk program and are waiting to be matched with a donor.

I did have grieving ( I still am! ) I think you it is ongoing process.  hope this helps

  • I am about to start a DE cycle. I have a great FSH, AMH and responded great to meds on my IVF - but we did PGD b/c of prior miscarriages and none of our embryo's were viable.  DE is the only option for us. I was considering it prior to my first IVF simply b/c the success rates are so good and we are OOP entirely.

You should certainly check out all your options but I think using DE is more common than people realize.  It's actually turning out to be cheaper than my IVF cycle with PGD - I paid about $20,000 for that including meds and all the genetic testing.  Our donor cycle is $16,500 (using frozen eggs from a donor egg bank) plus meds but they aren't very expensive - a couple hundred dollars. Using a fresh donor is significantly more but again shared cycles can help with the cost.

The Infertility board has a DE check in on Tuesdays if you are interested.
