recs for a video camera?

I'm looking for a small video camera that would be easy to carry around. Over christmas we watched some old home videos, just of every day stuff, but it was fun to see how much the kids have changed in 10 or more years. Never mind the fact we found an old 8mm of my mom and her friends bellydancing.

Does anyone have a flip camera they like? I'm asking on the baby board because I'm wondering specifically about quality with kids video, they move so much and I've heard some flips aren't good with unsteady filming.

Do you have another small/not too costly video camera you like? My point and shoot does some video but not for very long so I want an actual camera.

If you do have one what do you do with all the videos? upload them to a sight?  save them to a dvd?

Re: recs for a video camera?

  • We have the Flip and I love love love love love it. So easy to carry around and takes great videos. They are unsteady and don't have all the neat features of a big camcorder (steady shot, fade, great zoom, etc.) but it works well for having it handy. We got the Flip with the intention of getting a bigger camera when she gets to recital age and such. Until then, I think the Flip does just fine for our needs. My favorite part is how very very very easy it is to email or share videos with the Flip.

I keep the Flip and my small digital in my diaper bag at all times for daily use- we leave the big stuff at home or for major excursions.

Ditto this, the Flip is great!!!  We actually got a nice camcorder from my parents the same year I got Dh a Flip...guess which one gets used more often?  The only thing about the Flip like pp said was it is fairly unsteady and it shows when viewing the video and it is best used outdoor or with bright lights.  But for the price and ease of use, it really can't be beat.

  • I have a p&s that I use for video...it's HD video. The camera is the Canon S95...it's a two in one deal which can't be beat!
  • I have a Sony that my mom and SD bought us last year for Christmas.  It is super tiny and takes pretty good videos.  I think it is one of the handycams.

Although, I really suck at taking videos.  I had it charged at Christmas and didn't take a single video.

Ditto exactly. We had bought a more expensive larger Sony and we NEVER use it...like EVER. The flip is so dummy proof, small and works great. I LOVE IT :-).
