Cart before horse for me here, but I really like the name Alina Marie. Our last name is Italian, think Gotti.

I also love Delaney Marie and Shane Matthew...but DH is sort of against Alina. I am trying to convince him that the nickname Ali is adorable....thoughts?

Pronounced A-leen-a. I just told DH I posted this and the fact that you asked how to pronounce means I am a dead duck...he does not want our future kid to have a name people question how to pronounce...He just said "Booyow, I win!" UGH

I like Alina. I didn't question how to pronounce it as i've seen it a number of times. I think it's very pretty.

I pronounced it right. Tell your DH that names are so screwy now-a-days that with even the most common names your child will still be asked how to spell and or pronounce it due to all of the U'Neek name adjustments. Examples; Jaxon instead of Jackson, y's instead of i's, boys names for girls, I've even seen someone spell Jessica with a K. Indifferent

Definitely go with Alina rather than Dalaney (gag). Alina is actually really pretty and not that unusual. I think Ali would be a pretty nickname and it sounds nice with an Italian last name.

I like your other option (Delaney) more then Alina.

I like Alina and I pronounced it right the first name. If it were Ah-lynn-na, then there would've been 2 n's. I also like Alani.

There is only one way to pronounce Alina: Ah-lee-nah.

And yes, the nickname Allie, is adorable. Allison is another great choice (ahem).

Shane is a boy's name and Delaney is terrible. Go with Alina. It's not so uncommon (given teh various spellings) that people will be confused.

It wouldnt be the first time people pronounce names wrong or differently than one would think. Lucia is a perfect example. So, it isnt so cut and dry and most seem to think.

I like alina, but i do think a lot of people will not know the way to pronounce it immediately.
